Balloting is not balloting? If so, why they still call it a ballot? :?
IDK. Also, what I meant to say is authorities may have (confidential) raw score (like T score) to determine who gets in that school (taken into account priority of application etc). Meaning those at AL7 who put a particular school at first choice, authorities will determine who gets in with raw score (which is confidential). It is either this or really ballot (ie computer draw lots / tikam). If it's truly really ballot, then a lot of parents may think it's unfair, me included. No matter what, a lot of children and families work so so hard for PSLE and to let a ballot determine their school is not so fair.. -

Another option, easier to achieve and less worries for parents and child: don’t chase after top schools?

This is not correct. Seems like conspiracy theory thinking! Raw score is raw score and is not moderated into a bell curve to produce gradation to multiple decimal places.
IMHO, one of the reasons for having AL is to reduce comparisons between parents/children and other parents/children. Computer balloting may not be random process and T scores and decimals may still be kept confidentially by authorities. Meaning within all the AL7, they will know which child had a strong AL7 (ie 7.0001) and weak AL7 (ie 7.99999). This will determine the true COP ? So, ballot is not a computer tikam process. -

Tscore to AL. Perhaps authorities mean well. But on the ground: More mystery, tuition centres new gimmicks, and like you said, chase AL 5 to be \"extra sure\". Congrats to your DS for getting into RVHS and more so for being happy with everything.
Well.. DS took it quite well. He said that a lot of his friends (whatsapp group) also posted to RVHS, even his best buddy.

No. It has to be a ballot to satisfy those people who does not want their young children to have to be ranked \"so early\" in life. Otherwise we might as well have stuck to t-scores. There'll be hue and cry from the public if we are still using some \"hidden decimal points\" to determine who gets what. We do not want to start some conspiracy theories now, do we?

For IP schools/track, was anyone at the COP and got in with 2nd choice (or lower)? Or all IP COPs are first choice? -

Yes, but they are inside of the COP at the school ultimately posted to (all of the above are AL7 something). I am wondering are there any AL7[X if applicable] 2nd choice+ to AL7[X if applicable] COP school that got in. Same for the AL8s and I guess RVHS at AL9(M) (1st choice only).

We received some inputs from MOE:
\"This year we have implemented the new PSLE Scoring and Secondary 1 Posting systems and earlier today we had announced the Secondary 1 Posting results.
The school choice patterns have remained broadly similar under the new system and more than 80% of the students were posted within their first 3 secondary school choices. Cut-off points (COPs) for individual schools remain largely stable to the indicative COPs that were shared earlier this year.
We are heartened that our parents continue to select secondary school choices by looking beyond grades and focusing on their child’s strengths, interests, and abilities during the selection process. This would aid in the holistic development of our students as they embark on the next phase of their education journey.

So it's great that most people are able to get to within their first 3 choices. -
With the new AL grading, I think the % of students appealing would be higher than previous years with the T-Score. Like in the case of RI, many AL6 would appeal. I wonder what would the criteria be for selection in the appeal cases.
