Saw this from ACS(I) chatbot:
Affiliate Minimum Requirements (AMRs) and indicative PSLE Score Range for ACS (Independent):
Course: Express
AMRs: 13
Indicative Score Range (Affiliate): 13
Indicative Score Range (Non- Affiliate): 8
Course: IP
AMRs: NA
Indicative Score Range (Affiliate): NA
Indicative Score Range (Non- Affiliate): 7
It could be that more affiliates qualified under AL AMR of 13 vs T-score AMR of 235, hence less space for non-affiliates? -
DD got AL8
1st choice - SCGS IP
2nd choice - SCGS O level
Results - SCGS O level.
Will the chance of her to appeal to IP is very slim this year?
I am not sure if this year COP of IP should be AL8. It seems that many didnt manage to get into IP with AL8. It is sad. We really thought we can get it. -

Yeah.. This is the ideal end product envisioned by MOE by shifting to AL system. But again, we all know that if that happens, it doesn't matter if it is Tscore or AL.
Another option, easier to achieve and less worries for parents and child: don’t chase after top schools?
This is just my feeling, but judging by MOE announcement and the grounds, it looks like parents and kids generally still put down their choices as if it is Tscore. Maybe few more years down the road, things will stabilize?
All in all, congrats to those posted to their dream school. Those who did not get into first choice, like what I told my DS, \"it is not the school which defines our path, but how we pursue our path defines what we have down the road\".
PS: DS is happier than I expected going into RV. Maybe a girl that he likes also got into RV? :scared: -

Do well in Sec 1 and 2 to get a chance at going to IP in Sec 3. I think this is a better option as you get a choice at Sec 3 to decide if you want to continue in your 'O' levels or try out IP.

I think one consequence of the new system will be to more clearly establish RI and RGS and the two elite schools (i.e. the AL6 schools) with a more clearly defined slightly less elite tier of AL7 schools (HCI, NYGH, MGS and ACSI). This will be in contrast to the traditional way of thinking about the top 4. I expect a pattern will emerge whereby:
Another consequence could be on mentality of parents, those who are balloted into top schools will be perceived as more lucky rather than better scorers than those who were balloted out. So gradually the top schools may lose some lustre? That will be welcomed change by MOE.
- you need AL6 to have a chance at RI/RGS
- you need AL7 to have a chance at HCI/NYGH/MGS/ACSI
- you need AL8 to have a chance at most of the other IP schools (St Nicks, Cedar, SCGS, Dunman, SJI, VS) -

It seem no matter how the system is tweaked, as long there are still chasing after top schools(get a AL5 to play safe), there will be always be worries for those parents. Seem like primarily, it is not a system issue?

AL6 for RI/RGS
AL7 with D for HMT for NYGH/HCI (but getting D is difficult), but going in at AL6 is confirmed
AL7 for MGS/ACSI -

RGS and RI are secular schools and offer various MTL which some other IP schools doesn't. which is why these 2 schools to have higher demand and higher COP.
