Usually the cut-off points listed is that of the last person admitted. Very likely, your DD was balloted out. So sorry.

Hi, anyone has admitted to tkgs via MEP DSA? when doing sec-1 registration, I saw there’s optional MEP application form, my question is, does my daughter still need submit this form since she has already been admitted by tkgs via MEP DSA?

Hi had called the school myself and confirmed COP is indeed at AL13. TKGS 1st choice while Zhonghua 2nd choice , my girl ( AL13) got posted to Zhonghua . Considering an appeal to TKGS but heres my dilemma would appreciate if i can get an insight from experience parents / moderators here if i should appeal , the dilemma mainly because of proximity ( we stay in Hougang area ) and holistic well-being of my girl. Personally , i have always preferred an all girls school for the obvious reason ( to weed off at least BGR issue ) hence the biggest push for appeal while the other concerns are as such :
Q1) does distance matters to you since to commute between home and school takes about ah hour each way , its a half ok half not ok thing when we placed it as 1st choice because both of us like this school but the distance is still a killer ? What are your thoughts ?
Q2) Zhonghua was placed 2nd because of the good reputation that it has throughout the years so no issue about being a good choice to start with except its co-ed but it seems to be more geared towards a chinese culture correct me if i,m wrong ?
Q3) Prior to calling TKGS i was not sure if my child is balloted out or if this year’s COP has changed hence a call to the school to confirm , so academcially she meets the appeal ( AL13 , COP 13 ) as i was informed by the admin during the call . I believe with her outgoing character she is able to deal with an all girls school so my next concern is being an only express school will this school be too stressful for her academically to undertake that she will endup struggling after all secondary school life is not the same anymore subjects and syllabus are different ?

On Q3), I'm not sure all Express makes much of a difference. In either school, the student for her stream will all be AL13 or better. Note, I am not overly familiar with this issue but some others have commented that Sec 3 subject combinations in all Express schools can be a bit more flexible (again, not sure if the comparison is relevant between these two schools).

After that, it's mainly a distance vs. girls/co-ed issue, and everyone will have a different take here (or how big of a deal it is). Looking at a map, the commute difference is ~30 mins vs. ~1 hour (includes walking/bus to MRTs) for your girl? If so, this won't be much help but to me it is kind of in the gray area. 5-10 min walk vs. an hour or 30 mins vs. 1 hour 30 mins would be a lot easier for me to make a decision... -
Sorry, I can only comment on distance. IT DOESN'T MATTER. The top boy in my primary school was staying on one of the surrounding islands and has to take a boat to Singapore everyday. I suppose there's not much one can do while travelling a long distance but to read
That's hard to do when you are just walking to school. Oh well, that's just my theory. -

While there are definitely kids travelling 1 hour+ to various schools and doing great, the benefits of a shorter commute are real. If you fix the bed time, reducing 1 hour of commute has a very large % increase in the time available for HW, relax, etc (these kids only have a few hours after get home, eat, shower, etc).

Again, not saying it can't be done and there are differing levels of efficiency kids have on public transport. Personally, I think adequate sleep is an underrated tool for academic performance and general well-being. So at a 30 minute delta each way, I will start to think very hard about exactly what each school is offering and whether I am willing to give up something for more time. -

Exit F of Circle Line @ Serangoon will lead to Zhonghua Sec Sch directly in 5 mins by walking. Go for Zhonghua Sec. You will realise the time saved could have been used for more sleep, school homework and revision during exam period and long days with CCA.
