First of all, my suggestion is 8:00, if not 8:30 every day.
Secondly, starting late does not mean reducing school hours.
We must always put the health of students first, not the other.

Would you like to share any specific health issue you hope to address for your child case, by having later school start time? Maybe other parents can suggest alternate solution.

CCHM has longer school hours as compared to a normal non-SAP secondary school. That’s because they cover additional lessons on appreciation of Chinese culture and elementary Malay language which are compulsory for all lower secondary school students. I don’t think it is possible for the school to start lessons at 0830hrs everyday, esp if there are other activities like CCA, electives to consider. Once a week is fine. But hey, I think CCHM is not the only school which starts at 0800hr. Many other schools start around the same time too

Oh no…we were there to purchase the uniforms & books but nobody told us about the socks. We have missed out on the socks purchase. Is it alright to wear normal white socks instead?

It’s ok, no need to worry. My child is wearing just plain white socks (no ankle socks) and that is acceptable by the school as well.

To ask the Minister for Education in light that fewer than 15 per cent of secondary school students get enough of the recommended daily eight hours of sleep and experts on children and sleep advocate starting school no earlier than 8.30 am, whether there are plans to revise the starting time for all primary, secondary and pre-tertiary schools to later than 8.30am.

Insufficient sleep time can cause many health problems, especially for teenagers.

If CCHM could change the start time of each day to 8:00 (30 minutes late), it would make a big difference. Just like the Anglican High School has done.

I am curious why you didn't put your children in AHS if you prefer its starting time? Instead of making a fuss about cchm starting time.

I’m a mother of a girl who is joining the school next year. I do think it is weird that lessons start at 8 am but flag raising/self reading takes 30 minutes, making school time start at 730 am. Besides, with covid, I presume that there is no large scale assembly and these are all done in the individual classrooms. Assuming it takes 5 to 10 minutes to sing the national anthem and the school song, it would be better to allow the school reporting time to be pushed later than 730 am. No change to lessons start time of 8 am, meaning no change to curriculum hours.


But of course, we can discuss all we want until the cows come home but unless there is an influential group (how strong is the PSG?) that conveys this to the new Principal or decision making committee, nothing will change.

Hi,

I'm posting here on behalf of my dad since Chung Cheng High(Main) does not provide bus shuttle service for students anymore. My dad has been fetching Chung Cheng High students for more than 10 years now. Some of the students he is fetching have just graduated. He currently is still fetching students and is only looking for 4 to 5 more new students who are interested in using his service as he is driving a 13 seater mini-bus. In light of covid-19, the bus is sanitized daily. He usually drops off students at the side gate along crescent road at 7am, but if it is raining he will drive into the school gate to drop them off inside. Due to the residential area of current students, he is only looking for students who stay in Punggol, Pasir-ris and Tampines. Interested parents can contact my dad for additional info on timing of pick-up and prices via whatsapp or calling him, Mr Kelvin @ 92715047.

There's a reason for this arrangement and it has something to do with the location of the school. Consider what the residents there have to go through and you will understand why the school has made reporting time at 7.30 am when lessons only start at 8 am.
