Good idea to convey our voice to the school. In fact, I have already sent the message to the school. But the school just replied that it would consider this in the future. sad. I hope PSG can do something about this.

No need be sad lah. Going to CCHM should be an exciting journey and I am sure both you and your child should be looking forward to it since it’s your choice!

If you are so concerned about getting enough sleep for your child, why don’t you consider to move his/her bedtime earlier by half an hour? Wouldn’t this be easier than getting the entire school to change the school hours? No offence, but I really cannot understand your logic leh :boogie:

You should look at the traffic condition around the school 20 minutes before and after 7.30 am. It's insane. How would you feel if you were a resident staying there and trying to drive out of the house to work?

If you change the reporting time to 8 am, it means traffic will pile up from (to be optimistic) 7.40 am to 8.20 am. This is the time that residents there usually leave house for work. Would you be happy to be stuck in the traffic four days a week? What about not buying the house around the school in the first place if you don't want to have this problem?

Let's say you change the school start time to 8.30 am. Currently, students report to school at 8.30 am on Thursdays and this is the exception rather than the norm. Parents probably think that their children could go to school on their own one day a week. However, if you change the reporting time to 8.30 am everyday, the consideration would be different. You would still see traffic being piled up. It's a matter of time CCHMS principal becomes inundated with complaints from residents living around the school. Maybe the principal will get a visit from the MP of the area?

Also, if you push the school start time to 8.30 am everyday, what would happen on CCA days? Lessons would end at 3.30 pm, CCAs would start at 4 pm and 7 pm. What time would it be when the students reached home? Bear in mind that some CCAs practice three times a week, so this would be the case three times a week.

Let's go even further. The coaches for CCHMS wushu also teach other schools. Pre-COVID time, wushu students from VJC would travel to CCHMS for their wushu training that started at 7 pm as CCHMS wushu students' end time for their training was 6.30 pm. Have a guess what time VJC students ended their wushu training? So, should we ignore VJC students since they were not CCHMS students? What about changing the training session to Saturdays? Sorry, the coaches had to go to another school for coaching (and mind you, the Saturday training was not the normal CCA day for this other school, too). So, how? Change coach? This is only one CCA. What about other CCAs?

So, you are not the only one who is concerned about the well-being of children. The fact that the school is unwilling to delay the start time means that there are other considerations and it is not just a simple matter of \"start late for the well-being of the students\". Between asking the school the push back the reporting time and you transferring your children to another school that meets your conditions, have a guess which one has a higher chance of happening.

We as parents, need to take good care of ourselves too. Observe yourself and people around and see if it ring true for you: if we feel tense, our tension will spread to our child too. If we feel ill, we cannot care for our child. Taking good care of ourselves in a way, help us take good care of our child.


One of the many ways to care for ourselves is to accept limitations. Accepting limitations is not giving up. Say ourselves and family missed a flight. We must accept we have missed the flight. Then we will work out rebooking another flight, and reach our destination.

I think if the students need extra sleep, they should just go to bed earlier. :lightrod: If they dont want to sleep earlier, pushing back the start time doesn’t automatically mean they will get extra sleep, because they may just sleep even later.

My angle:

Assuming those potential issue of CCAs, traffics jams etc do not exist. I still prefer start 730. even starting 730 am now, by the time pack up and leave school after CCA, it’s getting dark. It will be complete darkness by the time our child leave school after CCA, if school start 8.

We all have good reasons to start early (7:30) or late (8:00). But for most schools in the world, 8:00 is the best start time. Anglican High school is a good sample for all Singapore schools.

I will ask my children to go to bed early. But my idea is to let all future students (if not now) benefit from starting school later.
