:yikes: where do you all usually go to get the HRNs?
If a colleague gets an official test done, and lists you as a close contact in the office; if you go out with friends, and someone lists you as a close contact; if you are at some other place for an extended period (unexplained, and don't even know who tested positive - this happened to one daughter); if you are in church and someone in your group/activity lists you as a close contact... and multiply this by 4 adults.

And yes, while the govt rules change, not all organisations change as quickly. And it's no point arguing at the front desk, they just say they can't change the rules. And some colleagues and other friends are just uncomfortable because they still hark back to the rules a year ago. It makes no difference if the rules for isolation changed from 14 to 10 to 7 days because as long as they think \"quarantine\" they assumes it's 14 days. And some don't trust ARTs, so they just prefer you to stay away, whether or not you've tested negative. They may not tell you not to come, but you can tell they are uncomfortable in your presence and think you are very selfish to \"endanger\" others.

Something to know about reinfections of Covid19.

Commentary: Just how concerned should we be about COVID-19 reinfections?
          https://www.channelnewsasia.com/commentary/covid-19-reinfection-severe-mild-vaccine-omicron-2501776

          Extract:
It’s reasonable therefore to assume that, in general, reinfections should be less severe than primary infections, as the person being reinfected will have some pre-existing immunity from their primary infection. Plus, many people will have been vaccinated between their infections, which will have further raised their levels of immunity.

And even though immunity against being infected and developing COVID-19 symptoms wanes, protection against severe disease and death appears much more durable. So, at the extreme end of things, reinfections definitely seem to be less severe.

However, whether your second infection ends up not feeling as bad as your first may depend on when you get infected. ONS data shows the proportion of people reporting symptoms with their reinfection varies depending on what variant they were likely infected with the second time round.

Understand HK is running short of ART kits and only 6 brands are authorised for use in HK SAR. Abbott Panbio (the blue box one) is one of the 6.

Hope no SCs or PRs will buy up all our Panbio stocks and courier/handcarry/mail to their HK friends/relatives like how the PRCs wiped out our masks 2 years ago.

However, I saw some shopping malls like Novena Velocity, some NTUC stores and the BreadTalk HQ Mall has the gantry installed for people to scan in and out with token or tracetogether app. If vaccination status is not cleared, the gantry won't open. If we are going for a longer haul, this gantry may become the norm for most buildings? :scratchhead:
I also saw gantries at Orchard Central mall.
These gantries are an utter waste of money. Already 90+% of our population have been double-vaccinated. The vaccine pass was useful last year when the MTF wanted to psychologically pressure more elderly and young to be vaccinated by creating those 'bubbles'. But why do we still need those gantries and vaccine pass this year?

Bear in mind some HRNs with C+ persons at home are allowed to enter the malls to dine-in if they test -ve daily. The gantries and vaccine pass can no longer prevent the virus from infecting the malls. Moreover, some QTCs are dental clinics located inside shopping malls and if those sick ones who wish to get a supervised self-ART and have their records input into the HH system, they have to pass through those gantries, no?

Don't know why we need them. To ban those Healing Divide refuseniks or the non-boosted shoppers? Gantry or QR code, these don't stop us from having close to >10k cases.

She doesn't understand that HK is committed to obeying her master by adopting the Zero Covid strategy, so what's the point of persuading the HK elderly to vaccinate?

Because the old folks know even if you're double- or triple-vaccinated, you will still be infected (and even die from Covid) and that regardless of their vaccination status, their HK health authority will still have to send the mild young cases and the elderly to Penny's Bay or AsiaWorld Expo for weeks-long quarantine. There's hence absolutely no incentive for them to be vaccinated if the outcome (of being locked up) is gonna be the same.

The old and young will only rest on laurels and resist vaccination, trusting that Carrie Lam and Mainland hcws will continue to block out the virus from their borders and carry out ambush-style lockdowns to contain the virus to keep their community squeaky clean, Covid-free and safe. Dynamic Zero strategy they call it. A country with that sort of strategy will not require high vaccination rate. They have the resources and manpower to bring down each wave.

Moreover, the HK taskforce will turn around and ask if SG's high vaccination rate amongst our elderly population has effectively helped to bring down SG's mortality rate. The answer is No. We now have close to 900, vs HK's 200+ deaths.

I think Hongkong is past the point of no return. The moment they allowed those with mild symptoms to recuperate at home, the infection is not going to stop. Hard lockdown China style for a couple of months might work, but the economic impact would be devastating.

Their mortality rate these few days, well, its 30 deaths yesterday on 20th Feb. And their average recorded cases less than 1000 a day. And it's probably going to get worse.

I agree that they are somewhat temporary if this Covid-19 becomes no longer a threat.
Our current control of Covid19 severity is really the vaccination, vaccination status can expire even with 90% vaccinated, so it is not a % that can remain constant. The gantry is not to stop the cases from going up because it is impossible to control that as we know by now even with lockdowns, it's to stop the cases from being severe.

I expect the gantries can be programmed for other sorts of things too. At some point, they may be repurposed - crowd control for some other reason?
