You and your husband should talk to your children. Explain to them the disadvantages of playing too much playing computer games. And you’ve got to have some house rules. Give them time and schedule for playing computer games. Or you could engage them into classes or outdoor activities which they can attend during their spare times.

You can change your child from this addiction. Help your child replace gaming with healthy activities such as team sports, scouts, hobbies and clubs. Encourage social interaction with peers.

--i totally agree with this.. why not try a reverse psychology..instead give them something that makes them busy w/c can lead to their real passion. like giving them a guitar or any instruments.. 😉

I have the same problem (not an extreme problem but am worried it will turn out to be one in the future) too with my sons, but particularly with the Ipad. At the moment, I’m sticking to the method of bribing them to stop but I know it won’t work in the long run.

You can help your child to recover from computer game addiction by driving there interest to outdoor activities or club activities. take him to the family gathering, any kind of get together or picnic trip. Always try to get him engage in some activity. Slowly but steadily, he will come out of the addiction.

I have read several write-ups that you can really build a career and be successful in becoming a mobile or computer game player. I am not familiar with the names but I am wondering if the parents of these kids have also tried to control them before. They are earning really big in just playing and they are even competing for several international competitions.

I have observed that my kid is spending more hours in playing online games. I am afraid that he is starting to get addicted to it. What I did, I made him answer worksheets that involved electronic games and doing things that define being responsible versus recreation. After which we discussed it. Then I told him that his screen time is only 4 to 5 hours a day. I will reward him with additional hour/s if he gains a badge of good work. Fortunately, I saw improvement. I also give him interesting activities that he is inclined with just to get him away from using his gadget.

I have seek a counselor for my son’s emotional outbreak during electronic device game play. I was told teenagers/tweens rarely feel they have a problem and getting them out of an "addiction" would be challenging. Counselling only works if the person recognises that he/she needs help. The counselor also mentioned don’t expect teengagers/ tweens to be grateful to us…sigh, I also dunno how to help my son who is already 14 years old. 3 months of holidays, he spent 5-6 hours a day for playing…When school reopens, I can only pray hard he knows his priorities.

As already mentioned on this thread, you need to limit your access to the Internet, spend more time outdoors, go for a walk, play Board games with your family. It helps a lot
Agree. Time out with friends is good too, let them go shopping or kick a football. These kids need social support once their devices are turned off.

I want to contribute to this thread with an alternative opinion. The point is that games are a new media; it's like watching TV or reading a news site. Kids will probably never stop playing altogether; you shouldn't ban them.
No, we are not a communist state. We seek to find middle ground, have more control over the time spent on games (mainly for teens). Having a balanced lifestyle is crucial in their growing up years.
