      DHS - 21 May (e-open house or in-person?)
Date is fixed (from those that know)? So far the website has a lot less info compared to last year (although says more coming in early-May).

According to source, the date is indicated in DHS student's handbook and is likely to be in-person open house. Best is to look out for updates on DHS website.

Hi and congrats. I think there is no right answer and ultimately leave it up to the child to decide.

One thing to keep in mind, I believe debate CCA is usually one of the hotter choices and he may or may not be able to get a seat (regardless of which school enter if go via PSLE / S1 posting).

So if OK to try whatever school qualify for and try new things, whether debate or something else, then can give it a pass. Or, if prefer to try to lock up a seat (as you mention, seem like odds are relatively good) and not have so much riding on four papers later this year then can go the DSA route if comfortable with T&F. My kid is not in sports CCA but my impression is they are one of the more demanding CCA schedules. I'm sure your kid can handle it fine and I do think there are a lot of good things that come out of student athletes, so really just a question of how he wants to spend his time.

          Good luck!
Thanks 🙏🏻 We will just apply first, if eventually he receive the CO, we will then let him decide to proceed or not. Need to see if his school results are consistent across SA1 and Prelim, then we can gauge his PSLE performance…he is also the president of his school chess club, we are also considering to submit thru leadership? Will see….

I think can try, although leadership is a bit of a black box. I.e. not really sure exactly what is needed to get shortlisted and then what is valued most. Seems like if you can get shortlisted then the interview will be key.

Keep in mind if apply RI T&F and Leadership, it is possible they will put him where they want him (even if qualified for both). I.e. have many potential leaders but need someone to run very fast --> T&F CO, Leadership Unsuccessful.

Or, they may give him the choice of what he wants more. Can also try the third slot with leadership at another school (if willing to consider DSA somewhere else besides RI). Some schools may also have Chess talent area but this would likely clash with Debate CCA wish...

Sometimes that is the irony isnt it?

So far I have already heard of 3 stories this year, kids at the very top of their field (talent area) so already received CO/invitation to apply/verbal acceptance. But these are not the respective kids’ dream school…in fact the child wants to go to another school (which doesnt have the talent as DSA option). Hence the dilemma…

Maybe attending the open houses will help child to decide? Seems like this year no “tea reception” for such candidates compared to pre-Covid years?

May I ask is there differences in selection camp activities for NUSH science and math domain ?[/quote]
No big difference . The school will ask you to choose either Maths or Science and use only 1 option out of your 3 options for DSA. However, if you think your child is stronger in Maths , just put Maths. With the onsite open house on 21 May, NUSH may revert back to the original selection process
                1.Written test round 1
                2. Round 2 camp.

This is more thorough than last 2 years online portfolio submission, IMO.

So, either Maths or Science domain no relative impact.

                Good luck.

I believe they are the same but NUSH has not done this for the last two years. May be able to find some answers in the 2019 DSA or NUSH threads. Or ask on the 21st (May). Good luck!

Thank you didn’t know there is still written test! So only those who pass written test will be able to join the camp then

                      Hello Fellow Parents,

I had posted earlier about my son and his interest in drama and public speaking. As the DSA2022 portal opened on MoE, I found a few schools where he can apply for DSA : Catholic High, St. Gabriel, ACS Barker and SOTA. SOTA allows one to apply for 2 art forms and we think we’ll apply for Visual Arts as well as Performance Arts. My questions are:
                      1. Are the 2 choices at SOTA counted for the max 3 limit set by MOE for DSA ? I am asking because when you click on SOTA in MOE Portal, it simply states that this school is not part of Sec 1 posting system and we should apply to school directly. I wanted to see what the respectable members here think.
                      2. Does Catholic High only offer Higher Chinese? That may be a blocker because my son has Standard Chinese all this while.
                      Thank you.

This is what I understand from previous enquiries & replies in this forum (but hopefully someone else can chip in to confirm / refute):
                        1. SOTA is outside of the max 3 choices available via MOE portal. You’d have to apply separately via the SOTA Talent Academy portal (I think).
                        2. At Catholic High, Higher Chinese is only compulsory for IP track. So if you choose O level track, can take Standard Chinese.
