Unfortunately the other school we have in mind would be Henry Park, which is as popular as Fairfield.
We are currently trying to get an endorsement/letter from a pastor so that we can apply to Fairfield under phase 2B. Same question - What are the chances if we now apply under 2B and is it worth the risk to give up our space in Maris Stella for this 2B application?
Thank you all for your comments, they're very helpful!
(If I were you) I would keep the guaranteed seat for alumni at Maris Stella, work out the logistics there and be contented.
Phrase 2B at FMS(P) is equally, if not more challenging. Chances are slim for 1-2km. If you don’t mind Queenstown or Newtown as a back up plan, you are certainly welcome to try your luck. -
Junesloh,
Many people here have already given u answers.
Basically, the moment u take your kid out of Maris Stella (2A), you have already given up your seat.
In the event Fairfirld (Phase 2B) require balloting, assuming u managed to clinche the church letter, everything depends on your own luck, during 2B balloting.
Whether balloting arise in (2B or 2C), congrats if your child is successful at balloting.
Otherwise, at 2C Supp, with (Queenstown + Newtown + other nearby remaining) primary schools left,
1) if u can take & accept these 2C Supp schools, then by all means proceed to ballot.
Because
the moment u start to ballot, then u must be mentally prepared for All outcome, including unhappy outcome. That's why people who choose to ballot, are very brave.
2) otherwise, be contented with the ball (Maris, Phase 2A) that's already inside your court.
So many parents with K2 kids staying around (Bartley / Bidadari / Joo Seng / Tai Seng / Mount Vernon / Upper Aljunied / Cedar / Potong Pasir) areas are \" dying \", to enrol their sons into this coveted SAP primary school (Maris Stella)
Besides, Maris is also a missionary school, exactly like Fairfield. Maris (SAP) has the added advantage than Fairfield (Non-SAP). Maris prepared P1 students, in Higher Chinese. All SAP schools do this.
If u want your son to be well grounded in Chinese from P1 day 1, stick to Maris.
Remember
Students who are weak in Chinese, are disadvantaged. They can ruin their PSLE overall AL score.

Like I said, extremely low possibility.
This is one possibility. The other would be that there will be a few places balloted at 1-2km.
Given the data, going back to 2006, the only time FMPS ballot for SC 1-2km is 2009 (13 years ago). There were 93 applicants for 63 places then.
Since then, balloting have always been for SC < 1km and the number of applicants have never fallen below 40 (closest being 40 applicants in 2016, 41 applicants in 2019). Unless FMPS is going to have more than 40 places for Phase 2C, which I seriously doubt, as 2011 (49 places) is the last time that the number of Phase 2C vacancies exceed 40 places, I don't think there's even a remote chance for SC 1-2km unless the number of applicants for FMPS Phase 1, Phase 2A and Phase 2B collapse - an extremely unlikely scenario given the current trending.
Personally, I wouldn't waste time to focus on FMPS if I'm SC 1-2km in Phase 2C. -

?? Not sure what you mean but I suspect you think my statements are misleading.
The \"blanket statement\" was actually copied from the below post but was stated as \"would not be accurate\" this morning. :stompfeet:
For avoidance of doubt, what I'm saying is that while a significant portion (75%) of those who failed in Phase 2A/2B are likely to try again in Phase 2C, not everyone who tried in Phase 2A will try in 2C because they could be living outside of 1km. There is no contradiction. -

Hi Floppy, I agree with your analysis. May I ask where do you get your data from? I don’t seem to see the same amount of information as you do. Thanks!

Side note: it’s FMSP.. (not FMPS anymore) rebranded quite a while already! -

Some people collect stamps, others collect coins. I collect datasets

Actually, I rely on a couple of ‘open source’ data:
1. https://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/article/singapore-primary-1-registration-school-balloting-history/
2. SG Schooling data
3. OneMap.sg
P/S: thanks for the FMSP reminder. I still stuck with old school info. -

I guess you already know why you want to consider your riskier choices, and I can guess why too. Academic performance is a function of many factors even though the focus is only on the school here. Doing well in a SAP school is seldom about the school.

Hello! May I know which primary schools are strong in Chinese language? I only heard of Pei Hwa and Nanyang at the moment.

There's a reason why they are called 特别辅助计划 の 特选学校.
