Sorry, I am noob here. Just wondering why I cannot see the 21 May post by "someone"? Also I accidentally clicked on the profile by the "someone" and saw the public information is "zac’s mom". Does this mean there is a bug affecting what I am seeing on the page?


To the "someone", I am curious to know what kind of special programmes are you referring to in ACSI. My children and nephews told me that the IP and OP kids are mixed together in CCAs. There is no separation.

The OP kids get to experience mentored research projects right from Sec 1. The CCAs we asked didnt seem to require any prior experience, and there is a free-for-all try out period during Orientation before they fill in their choices. It is unlike certain CCAs at ACSI where only those with competition experience are accepted.[/quote]

I have 2 boys in ACSI. In the school, IB refers to the Year 5 and Year 6. The building for the Y5 and 6, are separated from the Y1 to Y4. As for CCAs, the Y1 to Y4 train together, regardless of whether they are on o’level or IP track.

What are some challenges faced by students after taken their O-level in other Secondary schools (non ACS related), joined ACSI (IB) in Year 5, be it in curriculum or otherwise ?

Just as a note to explain where I'm coming from: I've supervised history, econs, literature, chemistry, and theory of knowledge for the IB programme, for about 17 years.

I think the biggest technical challenge is the amount of long-form structured writing. IB rubrics require long-form writing for every subject; this also provides good preparation for a typical college/university education.

The biggest cognitive challenge is the necessity of coping with ambiguous answers: teachers trained to teach only O- or A-levels will often suggest that students start with a specific stance on an issue and write accordingly. However, while IB rubrics address cogency and coherence, they also require a more nuanced position, often not entirely on one side or the other, but conditionally so—that is, \"I consider X to be true provided that... while Y can also be true given that...\".

Hi, This is a bridge over question for DSA for ACS I school.


My older one is with ACS Ind - IB track and the younger one who is a Literature buff also would like to follow the older brother’s school. His AL is Al10-AL12 range, based on P5 and P6 Sa1 RESULTS.

I have currently submitted a "no preference" under 2 domains for ACS - I = Math (as he did well for SASMO too) and Humanities.

I am hoping that gives him a better chance given his grades. (?)

Just wondering if he does get through ACS - O level track (a lot of assumptions here tho), would it help if his language is strong to appeal to move to IB track in Year 2 / Year 3 - given he meets the grades cut-off??

If he meets the grade requirements, he'll only need to get through the interview. In that sense, it might help a bit if he communicates well. There's no particular bias (or there shouldn't be, anyway) towards a particular strength. In fact, the more diverse the skillset, the more preferred the student (in general).

my son is in Sec 1 this year (2022) at ACS Barker Road and we are planning to let him to sit for the Entrance exam to ACSI for Sec 2 next year 2023. I know there will be the entrance examination and interview round. However, I would like to ask about the academic points for the exam and the cut-off points for the interview round? What would be the selected criteria? Any advise to better prepared and ace this?

According to the FAQ (which has since been removed from their website at this stage, as is customary in previous years):

“…While we understand that you may be anxious about the outcome of your son’s application, there is no need to call to enquire about the status of your application. We assure you that all applicants will be notified about the DSA-Sec outcome:

successful students will be contacted by telephone from the 1st week of September; and

unsuccessful applicants will be informed via email by 12 September.

Please note that no appeals will be entertained. We ask for your patience and understanding in this matter”…
