Cool to hear about the worksheets! I recall my mum once attended a short course about using Montessori wooden toys (puzzles etc) for engaging dementia patients (her own mum had dementia before passing away). Will ask her more about it.

I think it helps with the fine motor skills as well? I noticed MIL has troubles inserting key into lock, and opening small ziplock bag…not sure whether these are signs of dementia too.

Locally, 1 in 10 of those over 60 years old have dementia. Number of dementia patients estimated to reach 180k in 30 years time.

Mentioned in the video that research shows those facing hearing difficulties have a 20-50% chance of contracting dementia, thus early intervention is recommended.

          dementia is a frightening illness.

perhaps at the early stage, there is medication to slow down the illness…but towards the end stage, the patient doesn’t know how to eat and swallow. my aunt’s MIL was in a nursing home…she was very talkative in the beginning but cannot remember anyone. but towards the end, she really slowed down to the point that she can’t eat.

As a kid, my dad used to bring my along his mahjong sessions, so I recognize all the designs on the tiles, but am totally blur when it comes to the game. Guess I have little interest in the game itself. But I play mahjong on my Android TV... the tiles game, not the actual game 😂

My parents with my father over 85 and my mother over 75 are still playing mahjong with friends or neighbours at home every day and both still have an elephant memory.
