      Yah, especially IP, where the students cannot \"bailout\" during sec 4...but not sure how some of DS1 classmate managed to go Poly and overseas.
      your DS1 classmates just used their IP report card results, from (Year 1 to Year 4),

      to apply to (Polytechnic locally or to some bridging overseas university program), and continued with their Higher education. Some of these IP students may also have taken some GCE O level \"equivalent type of\" National exam, as a private candidate, in certain core important subjects. They are aware that as a full-time registered \"IP\" student in schools, they are barred from registering as a private candidate, in our MOE-SEAB conducted GCE \"O\" level exam. Even if they attempt to, they will be \"thrown out\", during registration time, as a private candidate, because their name & birth cert number / NRIC will be counter checked, verified against MOE computer, identified from which \"IP\" school they come from.

        Thank you for the fast reply! I was just wondering out loud becos I was reading the past years DSA threads and got confused. Sounds like the schools value academic results over the talent areas. Made me question the point of DSA. If the schools still emphasize on good academic results before shortlisting. 😅
        Have to keep in mind that once your child gets into desired school, the highly academic culture may not suit your child if they are not able to keep up. Let’s say your child DSA Badminton. They will be devoting ALOT of time to training. And takes away from ability to keep up with classmates who got into school via PSLE mark who will likely be more suited academically.

        Often the sports DSA kids in schools like Dunman or NYGH (and other schools like this) for example suffer from poor mental health and loss of confidence, as no matter how hard they try, they can’t keep up academically. Especially when so much time is devoted to training.

        Have to ask yourself if that is truly what you want for your child when choosing the school. They firstly need to truly love what they are choosing to commit to for their DSA talent and the school chosen should suit the realistic academic potential of the child. Not the “idealistic” potential of the child. Only a parent will truly know this.

        The school itself will naturally try and strike a balance between DSA talent and potential for academics otherwise the student may try and find a way to drop out anyway cos can’t cope academically or worse still have mental issues from the academic pressure and they have no way out cos they are forced to continue due to DSA contract etc. There are many cases like this. It can honestly be soul destroying for these kids that can’t keep up. And it’s not because they don’t have any academic value but it’s simply because the “elite” school that the child is in has attracted an entire cohort of academically strong kids. So anything less than outstanding is framed as failure.

        Be careful what you wish for…”success” imho is a happy and contented child.

                They did reply & acknowledged our initial emails requesting for the change. So, just wait & focus on RI test for now.

                  I was wondering what deadline is this, if it's this NUSH form, then we've submitted the confirmation form the day we received it. No harm to just submit it now if not yet, and wait for the email for the new date/time.

                      On the contrary, academic is not the priority in the first round, achievements in the talent area are. Achievements are actually quite verifiable - sports have competitions, performing arts have grading / public performances etc. Hence, schools who are on the look out or who are aggressive to attract the top talents in their respective field will likely send out the invitation to DSA, regardless of the talent's actual academic results.
                      What about VA (which my DS is applying under)? How would the schools verify VA achievements? The schools had not yet seen any of the artworks in the initial MOUE submission so how would they decide? Those were my questions when I considered how the shortlisting worked? So, premised on this, I had assumed that the primary (but not sole) criteria for assessment at the first round of shortlisting would have to be academic results. Of course, the talent achievements also count but I had assumed that they would not be as prominent simply because the schools may not have sufficient insight into them.

                      To be clear, it is also very possible that different domains are assessed differently 🙂

                      In the second stage, the panelists / interviewers / selectors will look at their suitability, i.e. fit and also their academic ability to cope with the stream (Express or IP). Doesn't have to be excellent, and may even fall below the COP, but will need to at least cope with the selected stream. My guess is at least AL15 and better but probably will need more info / updates given the baseline for AL hasn't been established (in the past, T-score 230+ will suffice).
                      You could be spot-on here. As long as a child is able to score an AL15 and below, they would automatically be shortlisted at which point, they would be invited assuming that they can produce the \"results\" expected of a DSA student.

                        You are correct. My son also got invited to submit his art portfolio by SJI. Not saying anything by this but SJI was one of the fastest to send out invitations following the 1 June deadline. It could be because they invited all to provide their portfolios so that they could then undertake a more thorough review of each student's skills before shortlisting them for interview and actual auditions.

                        Ultimately, I'm 110% in agreement with you. I'm just glad that my kid got the opportunity to submit his artwork. Did your boy apply for an Art/VA DSA into other schools, e.g. VS or RI?
