      Dear Chen laoshi,

Based on the trend observed (noted) for past 10-year-series for Oral ("kou shi"),
from past years (2012 to today, 2022) -

do the O-level (Oral) topics for both (pu-hua and gao-hua) ever overlap into each other’s area (domain),

      Or

      totally different,
ie. never overlap at all ?

      Eg.

If this year (2022) Day #2,
      yesterday Friday (dated 8 July 2022) :-

pu-hua (Oral) already came out "food wastage",
      then

this coming August O-level (gao-hua Oral), cannot be that SEAB will repeat the same old, identical topic on "food wastage", for Sec 4 HCL students, am I right ?

        Another thing is,
        how about state of \"Mental Wellness\" ?

        For the past 2.5 years,
many people due to global lockdown, many families broke down, family abuse occurred to vulnerable (young kids, wives and elderly old folks) at home. Increase or rise in school going children and teenagers Youth making appointment to see counsellors in schools, hospital, IMH, etc. During June school holiday, one week was dedicated to \"Mental wellness\" week. Do you think \"Mental wellness\" Oral topic, can come out ?
Yes, mental health topic has been quite widely covered, esp. since 2021. Some of the articles I shared/discussed with students included:

https://www.zaobao.com.sg/news/singapore/story20200804-1074216 Yearly increase in suicide rate, esp. amongst youth

https://www.zaobao.com.sg/realtime/singapore/story20220107-1230467 MOE rolling out mental well-being resource guide for parents

https://www.zaobao.com.sg/lifestyle/familynlove/story20210725-1173334 Suicide rate for elderly reached it's highest in 2020.

https://www.zaobao.com.sg/news/singapore/story20210728-1174564 MOE to progressively roll out Mental Health Education lessons

It's worth noting that even if the topic doesn't come out in oral, they can still appear in Paper 1 实用文、议论文、演讲稿、材料新闻. Also, reading such articles indirectly help with 综合填空 and 病句改正 because the nature of the passages are news articles (thanks to the 词语搭配 they come across). Really is 一举多得。 😄

          phtthp,

It is possible for CL and HCL oral topics (the main theme, not exact video) for the same year to \"overlap\" as per your description (or I'll say \"repeat\"), although I haven't noticed it very often. Some reasons why it is \"ok\" (as in no discrepancy) is because the nature of the videos are different and tested component and questions asked will be different too.

          - CL video is more of an reenactment of scenarios/incidents, with short narration (旁白) - usually 1 to 2 sentences whereas HCL video is more of a news snippet (similar to the kinds you see in news or programs like 前线追踪、星期二特写)where there's narration throughout the video + \"interviews\" of the public.

          - CL oral conversation does not include 口头报告 whereas HCL does.

          - Questions will be tweaked. For example, this year's CL Oral Day 2's questions revolve around individual food wastage
, how you will persuade others not to waste food and your opinion on whether Singaporeans are wasteful/take things for granted. For the same topic in HCL, they can ask if you think the Food Waste Reduction Campaign has been a success so far or how should merchants/consumers deal with excess food/kitchen waste (厨余) etc. --- in fact, the scope of questions they can ask is much wider because it isn't as restricted to the video content, unlike CL oral.

There was a Chinese Oral question in the past year.

            Is Singapore prosperous 繁荣?
Why and how can Singapore be more prosperous?
It was tested on Day 2 Chinese oral. The pupils came out blur, with a blank state.

You can go Reddit to search for past year oral questions or current year question after pupils have take oral exam and they post on Reddit.

The latest CL LC was posted on Reddit too about the questions and answers by pupils.

I think those are “eat English potatoes students”. The topic is easy if you follow the news but thanks to those students to share. I read one funny post from Reddit. The teacher told her in Mandarin to sanitise her hands. The pupil wanted to sanitise the paper with the sanitizer. Hahahahaha The teacher told her in English,” Sanitise your hands!” Hahahahaha

I think, scam will come out, esp.
                  It is news everywhere that,
even financial banks can be scammed. We are living in such a messy turned upside-down world. Those who have watched \"Crime watch\" series on Friday night TV programme on \"scam\", will have lots to talk about, during Oral. They should be able to score very well,

                  1) if they have watched this \"Crime watch\" series and

                  2) if this topic (scam) were to come out.

hawker culture may come out. Nowadays, have \"Diploma cert in being a hawker\".
                  Eg :
                  diploma in fried kway teow

                  Or

                  diploma in Mee Pok

                    hahaha !

I also laughed, when the girls sanitized their O-level Oral script given, instead of sanitized their own hands.

                    Anyway,
here is 2022 Day 1 (on 7 July, Thursday) pu-hua Oral, described in Reddit :-

                    https://www.reddit.com/r/SGExams/comments/vtdbd6/oral_day_1_chinese_116004_2022/

Comparing (Day 1 vs. Day 2) topic :-
Day 1 is easier to predict, than Day 2.

Today (Monday, 11 July), is Day 3.
                    Oral starts 2.30 pm, afternoon.

Some of the Sec (3, 4 and 5) students got to wait more than 2 hours, almost waited until 5 pm on Day 2 last Friday, before their turn came, and invigilator called them in. Thus, if your Oral takes place inside an \"air-con\" huge examination hall or classroom, please remember to bring a jacket along.

                    Before your turn come,
let's say, u are going to wait for more than one hour for your turn, because so many others (graduating students) are also queueing up, for their turn -

there is a place where u can still read & revise your Oral notes, silently. But once they signal for u to go in (enter), you have to submit \"All your Oral notes revision\" to someone, who will collect them. After your Oral is over,

                    1) on your way out (exit), u can collect back your own notes / stuff.

                    2) go to toilet and wash hands with soap.
