Heard and read that 2A1 and 2A2 are merged this year. Distance priority within the phase didn’t seem to have been mentioned.

I am just wondering in time to come, will there be priority preferential treatment ie. for Phase 2A, will admit those within 1km, then 1-2km or ballot if more than 1km?
It's all there. From MOE, https://www.moe.gov.sg/primary/p1-registration/distance.

Priority admission is given in this order:
• Singapore Citizens (SC) living within 1km of the school.
    •

• SCs living between 1km and 2km of the school.
    •

• SCs living outside 2km of the school.
    •

• Permanent Residents (PR) living within 1km of the school.
    •

• PRs living between 1km and 2km of the school.
    •

• PRs living outside 2km of the school.
    •
The https://www.moe.gov.sg/primary/p1-registration/registration-phases-key-dates.
Note: All children registered under this phase are guaranteed places in the schools.

So distance priority is not limited to Phase C now?

Even Phase 2A is subjected to distance priority? Are there statistics of school-balloting at Phase 2A based on the distance?

        :? :? :?

It has always been the case that Phase 2A onwards (previously Phase 2A1, Phase 2A2) will be subjected to distance priority. This isn't the only year that balloting occurs at this stage. SNGS, CHS, etc are all regular balloting schools in this phase.

Thanks for your patient replies. I am aware that Phase 2B onwards go by distance priority so schools only admit a certain number of parent volunteers to ensure that most PVs would get a place for their kids. I am also aware of Phase 2C going by distance priority. I am just unsure about balloting at Phase 2A.

When my friends told me that 2A1 and 2A2 are merged now, I was under the impression that they put every ballot slip from the whole population of 2A1 and 2A2 into the ballot box and pull out the ballot slips, regardless of distance.

If it goes by distance now, that means those who are out of 2km do not even stand a chance at balloting at Phase 2A? But I don’t seem to hear about news of that happening.

Wow thanks! Haven’t been in the game so am out of touch. Now I am clearer about balloting at 2A. Thanks!

It also doesn't mean those over 2km do not stand a chance. It school to school specific. Most schools do not require balloting. Of those who are fully subscribed, 13 schools only admitted <2km kids, the rest still either go for ballot or got a place.

next update is by this Friday 6 pm. any changes expected based on first day's numbers? think the swing factor will the GRL applicants and distance will matter especially for oversubscribed schools.
