Very interesting question. In our case, additional time for DSA? Almost none. A few hours of video recording for the DSA submission, plus the audition and interview.
Hi parents
Primary school children are occupied with their studies. May I enquire how much additional time and effort your child is spending in their talent domain, to build up good results, to have a shot at DSA?
The time she spent on training however, countless hours, including CCA, private lessons, competitions, etc etc. In between homeworks and mock exams, she would practice a few minutes here and there to have a break. But DSA was never on our mind until this year. -
And I don’t expect it will be any different in secondary school tbh. It will require better time management, yes. But they will have to develop those skills if they are to become successful later in uni.

“Not performing well” is subjective. I have heard one case where the coach ran extra training sessions held externally, and students (incl DSA students) are pressured to join those sessions in addition to school training. Of course, because they are NOT school sanctioned sessions, student needs $$ to join extra sessions. but some students cannot afford money or time cos of IP school academic pressure etc. But the coach always favoured and picked those that attended those sessions for school 1st team. Student end up completely turned off the sport and is determined to find a way out of the school.

Curious: how is that school performance in that domain? Top 3 finish, when represented only by students that can afford those paid extra training ? And if not finishing among the tops with such selection policy , the school ok with it?

I think “slacken” (used by another parent) is a better term than “switch off”
.If a student not in first team because cannot afford paid extra trainings, that is not slacken. I am sure the school will intervene, especially when a DSA student is involved

Actually yes , I do hear of kids who switch off in Sec school after getting the DSA . Switch off as in just go for the trainings but don’t do extra nor try their best to continue being the top . There’re indeed tactical parents who push kids for DSA just to secure a seat in their desired schools.
It seem to do well in both regular studies and talent domain is possible at primary school level. Does it mean the real challenge for those DSA students will be in secondary school where they have to put in more ( than non DSA students): to continue show good results in their talent domain plus managing their regular studies? Possible to “switch off” in the talent domain after successful DSA, to focus on regular studies?
The schools don’t do anything much to these kids . Coz there’ll always be other eager beavers who strive for their best to represent the school so there’s usually no lack of talents . -

I recall hearing that some schools actually have programs which help DSA students to cope with balancing their additional domain needs as well as academic needs. I think this is helpful as schools will do what they can to provide the support the student needs to succeed, whether in class or CCA. I'm not sure what this support entails but knowing that there's an additional safety net is comforting.

Where do we rank on ur DSA choices?
Which prog u keen on Ip/Os?
Are you really sure you wanna join us if offered?
Situational questions - What if the ref/judge made a call which u disagreed with. What will u do?
You replaced a top team mate who was injured, the team made e final. Would u prefer to play or sit out? -
Are there still schools conducting interviews this week and next? Just wondering because it’s very close to prelims and oral exams.

Has any one heard news from NJC and SCGS? We attended the audition for String Ensemble, but no news so far…
SCGS has already send out the interview invitations for strings audition.
