I think the one of the intended aims of DSA is to ease the pressure off the PSLE for those that secure a spot based on a talent the school values. Hence the timing.
As for telling the child result of CO? My child felt that knowing CO made for complacency in PSLE. Totally lost interest and enjoyed the ride too much. DC ignored the warning that classes are streamed in S1 based on PSLE results.
DC actually really regretted slacking off to that extent. Ultimately felt the stigma of disappointing results especially when was expected to do well. Interestingly, DC felt the streaming affected types of ppl and friends made over next two years. In some ways it drove DC determination to work harder in early sec years. Like trying to get the monkey off the back
So this time, on the advice of DC1, we learnt lesson. Didn’t share results of first school. But for some schools you need to go and personally collect. So had to share second school. DC2 just told friends when asked about results of dsa, that parents are not sharing results till after PSLE. -

That shouldn't be too difficult to fix. If staff and others are overly eager to share such information, then the school can take appropriate action against them. Not suggesting that DSA results are akin to official state secrets but clearly, those involved can be reminded to exercise proper discretion.
I agree with you. Since the selection of dsa schools is done after the p s l e. I don’t know understand why it has to be announced before the p s l e.

You raised a very good point that the schools do stream S1 based on PSLE results. Not sure if they all do but I'll definitely remind my DS that the PSLE results are still crucial for this purpose. Thank you

On complacency after getting CO, does anyone have a feel based on past years cohorts, whether the kids who got DSA, do worse, better or as expected?

TJC gets us going for this week!
This will likely be a busy week with many key schools expected to announce their DSA results in the days ahead, just shy of 12 September which is MOE's deadline for DSA results. All the best to those students who are eagerly awaiting the good news.

But, not all Secondary schools practised this, though. You can proceed to find out, if the school that offers your kid the DSA CO, practised this ?
Eg
1)
If u DSA in by Sports (eg. play badminton), some schools will put those Sec 1s together, into the same Sec 1 class.
Why ?
So that sometimes, when they go training for say some badminton inter-schools competition, because of the intensive \"geared up\" training they need to attend especially closer owards the competition time , they may miss certain school lessons. So, teachers will find it easier to \"lump\" or group them together, going by individual Sec 1 class make it easier, to give or provide these \"badminton\" Sports students extra coaching, to make up and to catch up, for the frequent missed class lessons
Or
2)
If u DSA in by Maths (Academic), again, some schools will put these students into the same Sec 1 class.
3)
In some IP schools -
in the past,
those Mainstream (Non-GEP) students who have scored good Tscore
(eg. 27x onwards),
for the 4 PSLE subjects,
some Mainstream kids may be placed into certain Sec 1 GEP classes, during Sec 1 class allocation.
But now,
under the new PSLE AL score allocation, not sure if they still practise this, for those Mainstream kids who have scored Total AL 4. Not sure if they still place some of these Mainstream kids, to join some Sec 1 GEP class.
4) for O-level track (Non-IP) schools
Yes,
in some Secondary schools -
they do allocate students into certain Sec 1 classes, that is, go by individual subject.
Example
If u scored A* in PSLE (English / Maths / Science),
under the old past Tscore (dinossaur) system,
they will be streamed accordingly, by individual subject. Later on, lower Secondary students in these classes will be encouraged to join certain grooming \"Talent\" opportunities, by individual subject.
But now,
under the new PSLE AL score system, not sure if some schools still \"round up\" those Sec 1 students, who have scored \" AL 1 \", in their respective PSLE (English, Maths, Science). Parents, if keen, feel free to call up your kid's DSA school, clarify with the VP (Academic), in charge. -
