Higher Chinese is compulsory in SNGS IP.
English Literature is compulsory in SCGS IP.

BSP and HMP and STDP in SNGS IP can be stacked on any subject combination.

What could be more important is to find out, what kind of science talent development programmes (STDP) each school has, to help develop your daughter’s passion and talent in science. What commitment each school has put in place to support your daughter. It is afterall a Science DSA.

As for compulsory activities for the dsa science student joining in 2023, you should check with the schools for the most accurate information, as they can change the requirements with every cohort right?

Pre covid, SCGS had a fun fair every year? I recall buying fun fair tickets from a colleague every year around CNY time.

SNGS used to have one every 3 years. Less fun in this way I guess?

        Congratulations
My girl's also DSA science from SCGS too, she's now Sec2.
Although distance wise, SNGS is nearer but we chose SCGS as my girl is weak in Chinese.
It's compulsory to take HCL in SNGS IP but optional in SCGS IP.
Both school have similar academic syllabus as they both go to EJC later.
SCGS has both higher art and higher music at year3-4 but SNGS only has MEP (music) for selected kids since year 1
Both schools have elective BSP start at year 3
Take note that it's compulsory to take Literature as one of humanity at year 3-4 in SCGS, I don't know if SNGS has this rule also.
There wasn't any commitment to join any CCA on my girl's cohort, but DSA science kids are encouraged to join Science & Environment Club.
My girl joined in year 1 but changed her CCA in year 2.
My girl took part in some science competitions although school didn't force her to.
3 schools - SCGS, SNGS, CHS - gather once a year to attend symposium although they couldn't mingle in this covid time.
SCGS school fee is definitely higher as it is independent school.

        I hope this help
        Thank you for your reply.

Any inputs on HCI? Other than this site, any other place that I can get information? Like their consortium allocation, ECA selection. Etc ?

Yes, what i was trying to find out are the dsa science commitments and activities. My bad for not phrasing my question properly. I will check with the school in october.

Does your daughter want the school or want the \"Leadership\" domain ? Ask her - what does she want ?

If she desires \"Leadership\" a lot, then just accept the Wait-list ( from Nanyang Girls High ).

              Because

              assuming that
your girl actual PSLE results released in November 2022 managed to qualify for RGS Cut off point (via S1 posting),
              very, very unlikely that
she will get back her \"Leadership\" in RGS.
              Why ?

              Because

during DSA (RGS) ( tests cum interview ) conducted, RGS panel of DSA management already very thorough, in considering who to give out the (COs and Wait-lists) to, amongst suitable applicants. If she were to enter RGS, her past DSA application record is still with them, and all the comments by them why she is not successful for Leadership (RGS) domain, are all kept there. They can always reference back, to her existing DSA application record.

              So,
tell your daughter that even if she were to enter RGS via S1 posting, in the end, she won't get back the Leadership that she want. On the contrary, be mentally prepared to join and to accept some other Cca in RGS, instead.

              Also, come January,
the audition process for respective Sec 1 Cca(s) in RGS, is cut throat competition, just to alert this first.
Very, very competitive, this Cca Audition exercise (process), that the Sec 1s go through, come every Term 1 when they newly joined RGS.

              Frankly,
if I were your daughter (in her shoes), if \"Leadership\" means a lot to me, I will gladly accept NYGH (Leadership) WL, and forget about RGS. But, this is my own personal opinion, only. You all don't need to agree with me.
Thanks phtthp for the heads up on the Sec 1 CCA audition. Didn't realise there will a competition among students just to join a CCA. Will let my daughter focus on the upcoming PSLE and talk to her after that to see what she really wants.

Based on what you've shared, If it were me, and if the kid clearly wants RGS more, I would forgo the WL. No offence to anyone, but it is only a WL, not a CO in the bag, and therefore carries uncertainty with it as well, so very little marginal assurance. Especially with her grades, the odds are in your favour. I would roll the dice and use results to get into my dream school.

Re: leadership opportunities. Both RGS and NYGH have many leadership boards. One need not have entered the school via leadership domain to be groomed for leadership opportunities. And between the schools, I think RGS has more leadership roles available cos of their house system which NYGH doesn't have.

My two cents' worth. All the best.
Thank you, that's exactly what I wanted to know. I thought maybe there will be special RGS leadership training programs that are organised only for the RGS DSA CYL girls.

Hi there. Rgs took in 13 girls through DSA community youth leadership (CYL). These girls still must take up own separate CCA (go thru audition and all).

Basically CYL commitment for year 1 is to help organise a social welfare event (old folks home cleanup. Etc). For year 2, as part of Character leadership education (CLE), the CYL girls will specifically enter ONE of the leadership modules. CLE is a programme for ALL girls.

There are still numerous other leadership Programmes, Eg prefects and student council, hence entrance via psle does not mean leadership opportunities are being held back.

Hoping the best for ur child (and all kids doing psle this year). As u mentioned, after psle then can confirm the decision
Thank you for sharing some very good insights to the RGS leadership activities. May I ask whether all CYL girls will definitely be part of the prefectorial board or it is a separate selection exercise?
And is that ONE CLE leadership module you mentioned above only meant for the CYL girls?

With her result, she very likely can go in to RGS via her PSLE result. If RGS is her first priority, go ahead to apply thru PSLE result. She can always groomed for leadership in RGS via many other channels/opportunities.

If her heart is not with NYGH, no need to consider the WL at all. NYGH with cut off at AL7, she almost confirm can still enter the school via PSLE result later, if she still want to reconsider the school later. :xedfingers:

                    This is just my POV.
Appreciate very much for sharing your POV. You are right, the only reason my daughter is considering NYGH is for the Service Leadership program and even that it is only a WL. And maybe also that NYGH starts later at 8.15am. Otherwise RGS is still her preference.

Hi. I’m not sure but it seems quite unlikely to directly correlate CYL with prefect board. If u go to RGS site, can read a bit more on their Character & Leadership Education. The module for year 2 reserved for mainly CYL is CMPS (community problem solving). non-CYL may be selected if vacant. Perhaps in other schools, the DSA may emphasize on leadership but RgS has a bit more weight in “community” over “leadership”.

I recall during a parent-teacher meeting, queried why they keep cutting down several CcAs every year. Reply is that they wanna focus more teacher resources towards the CLE programme
