Yes, Tscore more flexible.
Sometimes T-Score is good if the entire cohort performance is not good, they will shift the \"Bell Curve\" to low mark and overall all the students will get a decent score..
But now with AL scheme, if it is really based on individual capability to score the mark for AL, the game is totally different now.
As there are too many critics about T-Score in the past, that's why now changed to AL scheme, so to make everyone happy!
Under AL, NO cohort adjustment.
If u want AL1 for Standard Chinese, then minimum, must score 90 marks.
But if under Tscore, no need 90 to get A1. After entire cohort adjustment, if is 87, u can still get an A1. -

I’m unfamiliar with the marking scheme for MTL though I understand that with AL scores, you get what you get. However, with a tricky paper, I believe the query on moderation relates more to whether the markers will be more lenient with the comprehension answers and compo. Given that these are subjective, there is likely some room for flexibility. So, is it possible for SEAB to encourage the use of that flexibility and discretion so as not to overly punish students because the paper was more difficult?
Again, I’m not sure how it works so apologies if my question is an inane one. -

Yup, you are right in terms of room for flexibility (standardized by SEAB (examiners are briefed on the marking scheme) prior to the PSLE marking commencement), Mr.Clumsy.

As I explained the marks awarded for the various pointers in compre question during lessons, I also highlighted to the students how the weightage may tweak according to the difficulty level of the paper/question (e.g. how a 3 mark question can be [1 mark + 4 x 0.5 marks] or [3 x 1 mark]). -
My kid wrote 懂得孝顺父亲 as one of the answers.

There is some moderation in the marking, whatever is being communicated. Statistically, it’s inconsistent that they wouldn’t moderate the score. The cut off point for Express is mostly AL Score 20. If the scores are not moderated according to the difficulty of the paper, then the percentage of students accepted in the Express stream will vary year to year, but we know that they’ve been consistent at around 68% every year.

However, unlike the t-score, the final AL scores are not forced into a bell-curve.
