My kid said the man was an “extra” akin to 路人甲. Hard to assign him a role in the essay.

My boy doesn’t really remember the photos, he has been targeting only the 命題。He said both English and Chinese topics are somehow quite similar, one about the wait and another about 耐心。

I think it depends the child thinks what role the man is in the story ? For my kid , the man was mentioned but more like a 路人甲, shocked when the incident happened and watched on as the boy picked up the stuff

Same here. My DS mentioned him in that capacity but did not elaborate any further. More like a one-liner.

My DD said the extra man in the compo actually is not very extra, he appeared in 3 out of the 5 pictures in the compo.

The man appeared from the 3rd photo.

In summary,

1. should at least mentioned about that man (esp. his reaction to the incident, since his facial expression was drawn)

2. role wise, can be (a) passer by or (b) helped by informing the main character the whereabouts of his phone

3. ending should mention about whether the main character got back his phone (if yes, how)

During our picture compo practices, we once had a random character who only stood next to character #2 in 1 scene, & we were told off by our school teacher：要提到；这可是图里的内容

If this man appear in 3 out of 5 pictures, that's a lot already !
Even if this man is not the lead character, he could be the 2nd lead character. Cannot just simply ignore him totally, otherwise, zuowen will be penalised, if never mentioned him at all

Sounds quite severe... 有点严重... but picture compo is actually quite fun.

My DS highlighted him as a passersby who was shocked by the incident but didn't make him a central part of the story.

Anyway, it's done and has become a thing of the past. Time to wind down and rest in preparation for Science tomorrow.
