During our picture compo practices, we once had a random character who only stood next to character #2 in 1 scene, & we were told off by our school teacher:要提到;这可是图里的内容 😛 [/quote]
Yup, after all, it's 看图 作文 - so one of the https://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=69&t=81235&p=1936357&hilit=theme#p1936357 I taught is to circle the incidents/content in each picture - and think how they can be fit into the plot. Of course, there will be times when certain drawn content are pretty much 可有可无。

What I understood from my kid was that the man appeared in three pics, but other than looking shocked, he was just a bystander and did not participate in anything. When the old lady walked away he just left too. So my kid just treated him as a random passer-by 😅

If it's the man picked up but never return to the main character, that's fine. As for writing it as a pre-planned/plotted move (between the old lady and man to \"take advantage of\" the boy), I have reservations  .

if the man wasnt mentioned at all, with content centering about 2 people and the boy getting back the phone eventually. will the content mark be a failed grade eg. 9/20 ?

Don't worry, definitely not. Do have a look at this post: https://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=69&t=92233&start=1050#p2084564

Since 2017, the focus has been shifted towards theme + sub theme(s) (shared in my old post here:
https://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=69&t=81235&p=1936357&hilit=theme#p1936357). If I were to put it bluntly, those who manage to identify/mention the sub theme(s) will have a higher chance of scoring better for content component.

Those who don't can still score well/as well/better overall, owing to cohesiveness of story plot and language expression etc. The most crucial thing to note is main theme should be touched on - which is why the 1st step I shared https://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=69&t=81235&p=1936357&hilit=theme#p1936357is to identify the theme/moral.

Is it out of point if my child concluded with the theme but said that the man stole the phone. Wasn’t a plot but just stole it conveniently. And the police caught him?

It's not out of point but the focus of the compo should be on the main theme so the % of writing spent on narrating the man's stealing of the phone + being caught should not be equivalent or more than that on main character using phone as he walk + causing old lady to fall + subsequent reactions etc., otherwise will be 本末倒置。

Lol! My DD wrote a similar plot, just that there is no police and the boy got the phone back from the man. DD's main plot is still boy knocking over old lady, the extra man steal phone part is a sub plot to explain picture 5 and the question mark.

Anyway, last Science paper tml. Let's hope is less tricky and the P6 kids can smile and not worry about their science paper when they leave the exam hall.
