Was there really poo in the question or just the word waste. Waste could be urine too right, which in this case is liquid. So stagnant pee, mosquitos can lay eggs. 😆
I'm interested to know that too.

From what my dd described, the question shows a man taking a dump outdoors. There is a tube from the waste to a container and the diagram mentions gases passing thru the tube into the container. Question asks

        1. Why are mosquitos attracted to the waste?
        2. When mosquitos go thru the tube to the container, why don’t they survive?
        3. Name another living thing that produces the same type of gas and what is the process called?

From the above questions and the fact they mentioned gases… I think the gas they talking about here is Co2. Mosquitos are attracted to Co2, when they go thru the tube, there is no oxygen in container so they die. Living thing that produces Co2 is animal/plant through respiration process.

That’s what I think… dunno correct or not!

Thanks for sharing. I saw this article and it may help to explain a little.

Since the question talks about faeces, I think decomposition should be the answer since it also produces CO2 and methane.

But I am not sure either.

Erm …. But mosquito don’t lay eggs in poo. They lay eggs in water 😓
That was my initial thinking too.

In fact (and please don't mind my embarrassing thinking), I thought that the mozzies would return to the area because it was akin to a toilet and they (the mozzies) would have more people to feast on. As such, it would be natural for them to linger in that area because it had higher human traffic.

I'm glad that I'm not the one taking the exam.

Yeah, I thought that could be a possibility too. Whatever it is, this is a tough question and you wouldn't really know the answer just merely from reading the textbook! :?

Ya man. I don’t know what I would have written at that moment. My dd wrote that it’s a safe place for them to lay their eggs on as human will stay away from the smelly waste and higher chance of survival for the eggs to hatch into larva. Lol 🤷‍♀️

But we really don’t know unless we see the real full question. Might have some diagrams and background info and other important info that we don’t know.

About begin to shred and therapeutically remove any evidence of PSLE from the house 🙃. Any suggestions of what to do w all that paper (apart from throwing it away) or places to donate partly used assessment books etc?
