      Yes.

To add, for students in sch with affiliation bonus points, hcl wld not be so critical.

Not sure if this is accurate. In some express sec schs, hcl can be offered to students even though they didn't get AL2 for CL.
      Yes, in some Secondary schools,
to do Sec 1 HCL even if their PSLE results do not qualify,

students need to sit for a proficiency test in Chinese.
If they pass, the Chinese department in these Sec schools still allow them to pursue HCL (Sec 1).

Yes, some Secondary schools do overide Moe PSLE Chinese results released like this, by providing their own school's internal, self administered Chinese Assessment proficiency entrance test.

Depending on the type of students, for many, 2 cca pts + 2 affiliation points, max 4 points deduction is more realistic.

Taking CL for 6 months in JC 1 is not too bad.

Hcl bonus points is not applicable for poly path too.

We are talking about different types of students definitely.
Yes, if the child has the capacities to do HCL in Secondary, should go for it for its admission advantages and also learning additional language in depth, open up the child mind to more perspectives (that is acquired because of the language structure :

Agree. For kids who do not need to put in more effort in other subjects, scoring well, they have spare capacity. Sch will encourage them too. When they have been told they can stop Chinese exam once and for all after o level, many will go for it, very effective. These cases are clear cut.

For kids who are struggling with other subjects, B and Cs or failing a couple, kid and parents have to come to an consensus. These are not so clear cut. Kids interest and motivation play a critical part.

Use the Nov-Dec hols to get familiar with the format of the questions. The sample videos may be found on YouTube. Let your child practice elaborating on the answers after each video. If your child is extremely shy, get random extended family members to quiz the child during those gatherings. The kids have to face unfamiliar examiners during actual PSLE. Find a way for them not to clam up but keep talking in a good flow.

Some schools and some teachers may go the extra mile to let the kids have more practice in P6, but dont count on that. Daily chats between parent & child about school life, neighborhood surroundings, chores & recyling etc topics - these will help lots. If child doesnt know the important terms and vocab to describe, get them to find out and use them more often.

Thank you for your suggestions. Yes the teacher said she's shy and need to keep prompting her. That's why she lost marks.

This is quite a common problem as many SG kids are introverts. Hopefully she will gain confidence from practicing with family members first. Start with extending her answers by 1 sentence more, 2 sentences more, and so on. Target to answer in 1 full paragraph by the next exam. The kids who can gab on and on (without getting out of point) are the ones who score high for Oral.

The main issue with most local students is they know what to say but don't know how to express in Mandarin. Thus, it's important to build up their vocab.

Besides the daily chats zac's mum suggested, a duller (but structured manner) to prepare is to read vocab list based on places/themes - most schools should have provided the students with such list as part of the oral hand outs (example can be found https://sandaochinese.com/useful-terms-for-chinese-oral-exam-%E5%8D%8E%E8%AF%AD%E5%8F%A3%E8%AF%95%E5%B8%B8%E7%94%A8%E8%AF%8D%E8%AF%AD/)
