AVA has a very comprehensive food safety system in place. All importers need to have a AVA license as well as import permit to bring in food items. While there are isolated incidents of illegal imports, the same illegal imports are as likely to make it to your supermarket as the neighborhood shops.

The only reason why neighborhood shops is cheaper is mainly due to cutting off the “middlemen” costs. They do not have warehouses (compared to the huge cold stores that the supermarkets have), and they do not have to factor in the marketing executive’s, the finance executive’s, the HR executive’s etc salary into every item they sold. Most of these neighborhood shops are mom and pop operations with less than a headcount of 10.
Ya, lower cost w/o middlemen. I’m seeing more Vietnamese stall owners. They’re always busy re-stocking & fast in checking customers’ items. Hi find their stock very fresh in my neighborhood.

          Anybody goes to KCuts?
The hairdresser told me no news about price hike for CNY ie still $12.
Speaking of haircuts, I went to my usual store at PL Square for my $12 cut. I was looking for the money deposit box which they used to have but couldn't find it. Instead, the guy asked me to sit down first and pay later. And after the deed is done, I was directed to the counter and had to fork out $16! Apparently, they had \"changed management\" so I had to be penalized $4 for their change. Needless to say, I changed my barber too.

I am more concern whether they have changed your hair style. 😂
