Thank you for your suggestions. Yes the teacher said she's shy and need to keep prompting her. That's why she lost marks.

For shy kids, settings familiarity may help. Practising in a small room at home, versus an open space outdoor with adults around can be quite different. In outdoor setting, one has to project her voice to be heard.

Parents can lead by example to read out loud in outdoor setting with kid sitting a distance away. Get the kid to try the same. Once the kid gets confidence from the first reading part, her confidence will spill over to the conversation part.

If she also shy in Eng oral? If so, parents may wish to use her stronger lang to tackle shyness first. If talking to adults becomes normal thing she is used to, it is easier. Choose a time when there is no rushing, to ask her for opinion in simple matter. Have patience to wait for her response.

When kids realised adults are willing to listen, they will want to talk more.

Yes, one year is more than enough time. Once or twice a week is better than none.

According to above, to clear PSLE, bare minimum need AL7 for both English and Maths, which is 40/200 for English and 20/100 for Maths.


Otherwise repeat PSLE. Cannot repeat under other circumstances eg 49/100.

Most people recommend buy the one by EPH publisher cos it has better answer key, worth paying the extra dollar or so.

For Science, dont bother with the Topical version (just get the 3-yearly). That’s cos the topics are so broadly divided into Life Science & Physical Science (2 categories only), not even worth splitting.

For Math, topical version has more topics but probably not useful for higher ability kids.
