I went to open up the petition link to read the comments. I can understand why some ACSP parents are unhappy because it’s just too sudden and a very drastic move at that.
Quite a handful of the ACSP parents and alumni are unhappy that they have to move out of ACSP current premises to have ACSJ move in to take over. Regarding this, actually a bit unfair to ACSP alumni. So ACSP alumni sons and grandsons forever need to go Tengah while ACSJ alumni sons and grandsons can go Bukit Timah/Newton area?
Another comment claims that the BOG chairman was from ACSJ. If that is the case, is there a conflict of interest to suggest ACSJ move in to Barker Road compound while ACSP moves to Tengah?
Hi
Are you referring to the current BOG or previous BOG ?
There could be more affluent families with connections in ACSJ than ACSP.
Eg: We have a minister’s youngest son who was previously from ACSJ too. He should be 17 years old this year. The eldest grandson should be 7-8 years old this year in XXXX. 🤐 -

Forum: Keep ACS (Primary) an all-boys school
One overriding mission of a Christian school such as Anglo-Chinese School (ACS) is to serve
communities. Hence, the move to Tengah appears to be the right and proper thing to do (ACS
(Primary) to move to Tengah, take in girls from 2030, Feb 10).
I am, however, against the decision to make this new school co-ed.
Many outstanding leaders of this country – both male and female – were schooled in singlegender schools. Many parents also prefer to have their children attend single-gender schools,
especially in primary school.
The decision should need to be backed by research on the superiority of co-ed schools over
single-gender schools in terms of pedagogical and educational outcomes.
Such information should also be made known to the public so that parents and communities can
make informed decisions on selecting the most appropriate schools for their young children.
ACS has a proud tradition and great record of running schools for boys at the primary and
secondary levels.
Its long and illustrious history and traditions are treasured by its alumni.
News of the change has been an emotive issue for many of them.
I ask that ACS be allowed to preserve its all-boys status.

Moving out of Barker is not going to level the playing field. It just makes it less convenient for some parents, less reason to brag about ACS Tengah, and allows privileged children to familiarize themselves with HDB estate.
My 两角钱价值:
ACSP currently located in atas estate. So the affluent folks will have the advantage when enrolling child into it. And alumni will have the advantage in enrolment too - the opportunity stays in the family.
To expand fairness as much possible, is not to bring the opportunity to as many families as possible? Newton or Tengah, has more families?
We all know about the concept of diversifications. We have all heard the expression “ACS own Spore” thru businesses. It will benefits the ACS alumni bosses too if they can recruit ACS graduates in future that grew up in the heartlands and knows what the average folk need. May translate to more business success with better product that meet the needs of the masses.
In terms of enrollment, there will not be much of a difference because ACS alumni will still get to secure a place for ahead of others in P2C. What may change of course is that under 2C, we will see more applicants from 1km HDB neighborhood. But it will not be many because 1) Well to do family will buy or rent. 2) There will likely be only 40 places left for P2C balloting even with an enlarged cohort because Alumni daughters will secure a place ahead of 2C -
In light of the short view of history that some may have in these discussions sparked by the recent Tengah announcement, it was always just ACS from the very beginning (1886). The distinction made between ACSP and ACSJ and who is more entitled to Barker road really is about the view of history from their standpoint in time, and also in large part to public perception and their recent memory which school was "always" at Barker Road. Official History from ACS indicates ACS (Primary) only began at Barker Road from 1994. So ACSJ is just returning to Barker Road after leaving it - yes it was located there as far back as 1951 once! The current generations of alumni just wants their kids to go back to where they studied (physical location). The ever increasing competition for P1 places and changing constraints placed by MOE on alumni just means people will use whatever arguments in their favour. Did you know that Phase 2 priority used to be given to parents who were sterilised before age 40! Phase 2 is really tough. Anyway, I think some big picture thinking is in short order here.

Is my understanding correct: ACSP Tengah enrolment, at least in its 1st year, will not have phase 1? Because siblings of current ASCP barker students can only enroll into Barker

Yes, lee_yl, I agree with u.
With the shock development that ACSP has to relocate to Tengah, I think anything can happen now, really up to MOE to decide.
I feel that RGPS is quite vulnerable given that it is sandwiched between two other girls schools nearby (MGS Pri and SCGS Pri) plus there’s another GEP centre (NYPS) that is just 5 mins away. Who knows, it could well be the next one to be relocated to Punggol/Sengkang area and ‘advised’ to go co-ed as well.
Going forward,
if MOE can shift ACSP (GEP school) so remote and far, all the way to Tengal,
likewise,
don't be surprised that
one fine day in future, the same thing can happen to any of the remaining (balanced) eight GEP schools, too.
ie. To
(Nanyang, Nan Hua, Taonan, Catholic High, Rosyth, St Hilda, Raffles Girls', Henry Park) primary, GEP schools.
============================
Since ACSP,
once upon a time for the past century so long, has been hailed as an \"All boys\" school,
now suddenly told to open up to take in girls wef 2030 to turn \"co-ed\",
which threw many ACSP alumni fathers reeling shocked, dazed, off course, off track,
Because
Never in their OBA wildest imagination (mind) have they ever thought of ACSP turning \"co-ed\", something not easy for them to swallow (stomach),
who knows,
maybe one fine day,
the opposite can happen to Raffles Girls' primary too,
ie.
open up RGPS to accept boys, to become \"co-ed\" too. Any future change, is possible.
1) shifting far away, is already one major change. 1st shock !
2) turning co-ed, is another 2nd major change. 2nd shock !
If indeed one fine day,
MOE were to shift RGPS to Buangkok / Sengkang / Punggol,
the residents staying there will clap their hands happily, rejoice :
wow, wah ! Goody, goody !
GEP school, the brand name \"Raffles\" coming their way, at long last, having waited their neck so long !

RGPS reminded me of that once upon a time, an \"All Girls\" primary school that turned co-ed too, recently.
That school, called \"Cannosa Catholic\" primary school, located at 1 Salim Road, in Macpherson / Aljunied area.
Years ago,
this \"All Girls\" school used to have 4 or 5 primary 1 classes.
After that, this school turned co-ed, started taking in boys, as well.
So, if RGPS one day were to become co-ed, then will not be the first case.
Here is the school (website) :-

From my understanding, it seems like ACS parents generally have no objection to open another school called ACS Tengah and this ACS Tengah can go co-ed.

Some parents apparently cried foul as to why they are the ones who need to move out of current compound for ACSJ to move in to take over. Implication is that their sons and grandsons of ACSP alumni will have to stay in Tengah because if they don’t stay within 2km of the school, they may not get in as phase 2A is getting more and more competitive. -

ACSP will become like another 2nd St Nick. In that just like St Nick being surrounded by HDB flats neighbourhood, ACSP (Tengah) also the same ?
For St Nick (Phase 2A), a Full school,
balloting arose, can recall, is it within 1 km ?
But then, St Nick is a Full school, different.
For ACSP (Tengah) Phase 2A,
since is not a Full school,
balloting may possibly arise, say, within (1 to 2) km ?
Cannot be balloting arise, outside 2 km, for Phase 2A (ACSP).
That means,
ACSP alumni fathers will still need to shift closer towards Tengal, within 1 to 2 km, if they want to continue enjoy Phase 2A privilege. -
Maybe in 2036, they will move ACSI there as well and make it co-ed. Who knows…Whatever it is, I still don’t get the point of moving the GEP school. GEP pupils can come from any nick and corner. No point having the school so remote and discomforting majority. Also, I believe ACSP BR will still take GE pupils between 2030-2032 apart from just siblings of current pupils. ACSP T can only offer GEP from 2033 onwards, right. Then from 2033, those GE P5/P6 pupils will move to ACSJ as well?! So confusing and complicated and so sad for those last few batches - won’t be able to enjoy the full school…
