Hi
I heard that HC holding a two-day one-night bi-culture camp, (this year 25 and 26 June) at its boarding school. About 40 P5 students were selected to join. Most of them are from GEP. After the camp, they will select about ten of them to join DSA next year. Since it is a bi-culture camp, it means that they should be bilingual (of course they are best in Chin and Eng). Those selected students do not need to sit for the Chin and Eng test in the DSA. They are just asked to sit on the GA paper, Maths and have an interview.
Any other information?

Your info is correct. however,
1. not true that most of them are from GEP (from some SAP school, only mainstream students are selected because GEP is already a pre-qualification for some DSA, so GEP students have no chance, fair right ?)
2. this is the second year HCI doing it (first time was in Nov 09)
3. HCI is trying out this with a few SAP schools only as they are stronger in CL. This DSA route is a response to MOE's call for more bicultural expert (read : not just good in EL/CL - must be good in Math & Sci too)
4. HCI still monitors the overall results of the kids - and they must continue to show consistent performance. They do not want parents and students to drop momentum once they are shortlisted as the final 10
5. they camp is not easy (only 10 are selected from 40+, based on your info)
Possible scenario : exempt from EL / CL DSA test based on above qualification as bicultural camp winners, and ALSO exempt from Math test if SMOPS Platinum / Gold holders.......(better still for NYGH aspirants : exempt from GAT too - only need to go for interview) -
Hi Verykiasu2010

Hi Meimeitan
I heard its 50 selected to join the camp .10 will be selected via dsa for this camp in pri five.I dont know how true is this.Apparently, not all who went for the camp are with very good results. So, am not sure what is the citeria too.
Anyone can enlighten? -
Joy:
the 50 are made up of two groups : 40 or 40+ are P5 kids -- these are the candidates for this year's camp, the remainder are P6 kids who were the winners (about 10 of them) of first batch of 42 campers last year. This year they act as group leaders.Hi Meimeitan

the criteria is being good in english and higher chinese and cannot be too bad for math & science
the kids are selected by the primary schools which are in turn selected by HCI to participate
that means : the kids must have been doing well in EL/HCL consistently up to P5 when the selection by primary school is made, and the school must be partners of HCI....anyway, looks like the pool of potential candidates is very small.
it is a bilingual camp, the kids are being observed .... and HCI keeps emphasising that the kids must continue to excel in other subjects, in order to be called up for DSA final test -

Thanks for the quick message.
My son failed. He failed RI's DSA as well previously. Now time to work hard on PSLE, haha. -

My son received waiting list 1. Can anyone kindly explain what it means? -

My son got his HCI DSA admission! :celebrate:KiasuChampion:

There are those who get HCI DSA but will go to RI after if they have good PSLE results. That's the case of my son who prefers RI. So your son has great chance to enter HCI. Congrats anyway.
PS. Personally I prefer HCI to RI. But my son will make his own choice. -
