Yes, median improves from 84 last year to 85 this year whereas some JCs saw a decline. Well done to the cohort of 2022. EJC, Keep up the good work!
      :congrats:

Every new JC deserves a chance. As it is, I feel that Eunoia, being a new JC, is doing EXCELLENTLY!! Kudos!

Within a short span of time, it has 40% with at least 3H2 distinctions is HIGHLY COMMENDABLE.

Time is an important factor to look at progress.

EJC is an IP JC, correct? Most students are from CH, SCGS

and SNGS? These 3 feeder schools have academically strong students. So EJC getting good A level results, should be expected?

For EJC, 3/5 of the students should be from IP and the rest JAE. So based on that, they are expected to get good A level results. The other IP JCs IP/JAE %

            RI - 2/3 IP
            HCI - 2/3 IP
            NJC - ?
            TJC - ?
            VJC - 2/5 IP?

The other non-IP JC, Nanyang JC, touted as the top non-IP JC by some people, whose cop is 5/6 and only bettered by RI and HCI, should also be doing better. But this school only publish results when they do well and keep quiet when they didn't. So it is difficult to compare their performance with the other JCs, especially IP JCs. Therefore we should not compare Nanyang JC with the other IP JCs but instead put them at the same level with regular non-publishing JCs like YIJC and sometimes publish sometimes forget to publish like CJC, SAJC.

It may seem like a simple formula to put academically strong students together and viola.....stellar results!
These kids are human, not grades-producing robots. The ethos, traditions and cultures of CH, SCGS and SNGH are pretty heterogenous. Putting them together and building the image and reputation of the JC is not a linear task. There is not much history of the school to fall back on in terms of best practices so they have to figure out what is their way and how to make the students coming from the 3 diverse background schools tick. All of us as human, need time to adjust when it comes to something brand new. So for that, I kudos the school for being able to get their act together and still deliver stellar results as expected of them. Tuition maybe a big help but this new JC has added challenges and being able to come up to par with other JCs so quickly is commendable in my opinion.

Extracted from the recent Straits Times article:

NYJC principal Low Chun Meng, who has been heading the school since 2017, says a good cut off point is one measure of how popular a school is, but NOT necessarily a good gauge of how good it is.

Even the principal can acknowledge that.

Every JC has its strengths, there is no need to badmouth or put down other JCs. So what if NYJC has more than 50% with 3H2 distinctions? What happened to the other 40 over percent? Given the calibre of its intake with low cut off point, the percentage should be higher than 50% isn’t it? Has NYJC been of value add to these high calibre students?

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, no need to go around bragging in a forum that NYJC is better than EJC.

Seriously, Eunoia is only 5+ years old and NYJC 45 years old.

                    It's like comparing a toddler to a middle-aged man. 😂

NYJC has run its course to be where it is today in its excellence that they can be proud of. Kudos!!
Let EJC run its course too. As I have said before, at 5+ years old, EJC is looking impressive to me so 加油 to EJC!!

At the end of the day NYJC exists to serve students who do not want to join an IP JC
and EJC exists to serve students who want to join an IP JC. So it just means choices for the students,
They each have their own different missions and attractions so there is no need to feel whether one JC is superior over the other because their approaches are divergent even if their end goal is convergent.

All roads lead to Rome....but the saying never say must compare the roads to the nth degree, just get on the road you are comfortable with! chill everyone! :celebrate:

Yeah, NYJC is only more popular than EJC for JAE applicants, that’s all.
