“Responding to a question about whether affiliation for female students to secondary school would be introduced, Mr Seow noted that the issue was also brought up during the town hall.”

“Currently right now, the girls do not have any affiliation, there’s no secondary school there. Clearly we have a number of Methodist girls’ schools, I think we will also initiate discussions with those schools as well,” he added.

I doubt MGS Sec would agree to grant affiliation to ACSP Tengah girls. If MGS accepts Tengah girls, a substantial number of MGS Pri girls may not be able to make it back to MGS Sec via affiliation due to the rule of 80% cap for affiliated students. I think Seow say say only.
I don’t think he has MGS in mind. There are a number of Methodist schools for girls.

      Methodist Girls’ School
      Fairfield Methodist School (Secondary)
      Geylang Methodist School (Secondary)
Paya Lebar Methodist Girls’ School (Secondary)

        ...
My gutfeel is there may not be affiliation of the two alumni but those ACS(P) alumni having address within 1km of Barker NOW could possibly be granted the exceptional permission to apply to Barker in 2030 for their sons.
I'm going to bet the opposite that no such exception would be given. There is nothing unusual in the current situation that warrants such an exception.

Firstly, the privilege of being an alumni is not being taken away. Alumni of ACSP are still eligible for Phase 2A, albeit in a different location. Why should it be an exception that they be given an extra privilege of deciding where to place that Phase 2A advantage?

Secondly, schools move all the time. Nothing unusual here that warrants a special dispensation for ACSP would-be / potential applicants. If would-be / potential applicants feel aggrieved by the move, come to KSP and take heed of the advice freely given out by the gurus of KSP:
        - Start sourcing and shift house, preferably to < 1km of the new address
        - Rent a place< 1km for > 30 months closer to P1 registration

Otherwise, just accept that every school, a good school. Apply to the nearest school and hope for the best (a warm, early welcome to Farrer Park Primary School / Bukit Timah Primary School).

Whether it's MGS or another school, I doubt such a proposal is acceptable to the powers that be.

It should be noted that there are MORE students from formerly single gender https://accs.sg/directory/#P-SSS that enjoys no affiliation to a secondary school. These schools are:
Canossa Catholic Primary, De La Salle Primary, St. Anthony Primary
If MOE is to open the gate to ACSP, there is no legitimate reason to deny the SMC of these schools if they are to request for the same.

I agree with you under normal circumstances, there would not be any exceptions made. However, this situation is unique because within the vicinity, there is another ACSJ which would eventually merge with it and still be ACS. If giving the affiliation for the two alumni for Phase 2A privilege is a mammoth task, then that would be the best bet to meet the request half-way because after all, they are indeed within 1km of Barker NOW and enroling in 2030. It also fits the \"staying near the school\" idea that MOE wants to instill in parents and they are not going after the branding per se. Personally I feel that this is fair to this group of alumni but perhaps the rest of the alumni may not be pleased about it. 🤷

So if there is potential backlash, perhaps your bet is right.

I honestly doubt this will happen.

              Reasons

              1) combining the 2 schools will create a shortage of P2A applicants

              Cohort Size
              ACSP : 240
              ACSJ : 270

              Phase 1 Applicants (2022)
              ACSP : 62
              ACSJ : 78

              Phase 2 Applicants (2022)
              ACSP : 95
              ACSJ : 112

Assuming cohort size at the new ACSJ remains at 270 (up from 240 because ACSJ will not have GEP classes), minus 20 + 40 set aside for 2B and 2C = 210.

              Minus P1 and P2 application from ACSJ = 210 - 190 = 20 vacancies.

Allowing ACSP to join the P2 enrollment will lead to balloting for Phase 2, which I am sure ACSJ alumni will likely protest.

              2) If MOE allows the use of 1km radius as a golden ticket, this will also create an even more elitist culture where those who can afford can buy privileges.

In my view, MOE will unlikely accept such a request.

For those who already have a property <1km of Barker, it is far easier to sell it/rent it out and use the money to buy/rent at Tengah. Will have extra cash per month even.

Consider the opposite, which is what the poor 2C folks have to do, if they wanted to get into ACS in the past.

                Privileged, so privileged…

As long as any proposal is made from a position of privilege to re-write rules so as to maintain a position of privilege, it should be (and very likely would be) rejected outright.

As of now, people who cried foul still retain their ACSP Phase 2A eligibility, as well as affiliation to both ACS(I) and ACSBR. If they don’t intend to use them or get balloted out, there’s always Phase 2B (if they are eligible) and Phase 2C - just like over half of the applicants.

Misconstrued as privilege. The current campus needs a total make over…

I am not in a position to discuss about the state of the campus since I have never stepped into it before but maintaining Phase 2A < 1km privilege has nothing to do with the current state of the campus.

My understanding is current primary to secondary affiliation remains unchanged albeit ACS(P) relocates to Tengah based on the Q&A below. They are asking for additional affiliation to the ACSJ alumni so that they can apply to ACSJ( since ACS(P) Barker from 2030 strictly takes in male students with siblings who are existing students only).. Also I am not sure if ACS secondary currently has \"backward affiliation\" meaning if a parent is alumni of the secondary school but not primary, they can enrol in the primary. SCGS and NYGH have that from what I know, some years ago.

                        Quoting the Q&A :
Q: WILL PUPILS FROM THE RELOCATED ACS PRIMARY ENJOY AFFILIATION WITH THE SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN THE ACS FAMILY?
A: Yes, they will. There is no change to the affiliation policies for now.
no change \"for now\". That statement doesn't sound very assuring.

With the ACS new school for special needs, will this new school also enjoy affiliation to ACS secondary? Or will they have a separate special need school in ACS (I) eventually?
