BB Love:
Hi BB Love,Hi, if a school needs a relocation due to renovation and I'm staying within 1km to the new location....CAn I register my child as phase 2b?
:?
Please see my response in the other thread: http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?p=163526#163526 -
He said his son would just go to the nearest school. "You do not need to go to popular school, you need to make your school popular", this is what he said to his son.

Erm, staying within 1km to old or new location would not qualify u under phase 2B in any case. Phase 2B is for parent volunteers, grassroot leaders, clans and church members only..Hi, if a school needs a relocation due to renovation and I'm staying within 1km to the new location....CAn I register my child as phase 2b?

It sounds very good....but I still believe in 'jing zhu ze ci, jing mo ze hei'. ONE kid against the whole system?? Forget it, it takes a really exceptional lone person to change the system.
My neighbour's kid went to this unpopular school in the neighbourhood, he did very well and managed to go RI...all without tuition. When I asked his dad if the school was ok, he told me in no uncertain terms that his child did well INSPITE of (NOT because of) the school - and told me not to ever send my children there. okie....point taken.

If my grandfather was on the ex Board of Directors of a popular school many many years ago, can i somehow appeal for priority to that school for my kids?

:!: Your grandfather??? Grandparents can't help in the registration in any way, let alone great grandparents.

Hi Jor,
Registration for P1 now is so transparent. If you are using your parentsโ address to register for your child, you would need to inform MOE. Even if your parents are active church members or senior members, your child is also not entitled to that privilege. Sorry to say that. -

I don't believe your grandfather's relationship with the school will help you in any phases of P1 registration. As the others have said, P1 registration is a transparent process and the schools are limited by MOE's rules.
That said, I believe it might help during an appeal. If you apply for the school but somehow got balloted out, put in an appeal and let the school know of this relationship. I do believe that many schools value the contributions of their previous Board members and will take this favourably. And if your grandfather or family has existing ties with the school and the current Board, I believe your chances will be even better during the appeal.
Are you applying this intake? Good luck! -

I don't think any school will do that. It will make the registration process less transparent. Don't think there is a way you can \"appeal\" if you are balloted out. If you are allowed to appeal because you are balloted out, we will see throngs and throngs of appeal letters.
What you can do, instead, is to put your child in the waiting list. This is where the school has the freedom to decide who in the waitlist gets priority. -

Sorry, that was what I meant by an \"appeal\" - to put yourself on the waiting list.I don't think any school will do that. It will make the registration process less transparent.
