      Yes, u are right, newbieks

Not for piggies, who're born in 2007.
Is for those, born in 2008, onwards.

The secondary schools personnel (and even JC personnel), are possibly reading about the changes for the first time, now. LOL!! :rotflmao:
I believe so. Otherwise, MOE would have briefed the principals. Secondary principals should not sit back and do nothing. Minimally, start the ball rolling by getting MOE to do a townhall zoom meeting for parents who have questions to ask and wants more explanation about this new policy.

Is it better to do 4H2 or just 3H2 and 1H1 given that the maximum points is 70 points?

Shouldn’t MOE get the secondary schools personnel to explain these changes to parents of Sec 4 O level graduating cohort so that parents are not stunned by this sudden announcement.
Under the new system, for kids born in 2008 onwards, since 70 points is maximum, then sit for
          ( 3H2 1 H1), will do. No need to aim for 4 H2.

Current students affected, born in 2008 onwards, are 2023 Sec 3 this year, the start of their Upper Secondary. Next year, then they do O-level. Still got plenty of time, for Principal & VP, to explain to them the impact.

The change should be for the better right..wah our minister very good. I will tell dd study harder and aim for JC.
Yes, I agree this change is for the better. It may boost the JC application rate in 2024 for those piggies born in 2007.

              sembgal,

Your daughter, born in year 2007, is not affected in any way, where her A level computation points are concerned.

This is copy and paste fm newspaper…

'To give students more leeway to pursue issues of interest without worrying about results, the subject Project Work (PW) will be removed from the calculation of their university admission score, for the JC1 intake in 2024. They will be given a pass or fail, instead of letter grades. '

The new system affects those born in 2007.

                      My impression is:

-This applies to 2026 uni admission which means 2025 A level candidates ie 2024 JC1 onwards
-there is no need to do a 4th content-based subject at all ( no need to even think about the 4th as H1…in fact probably means H1 content based subject is not offered anymore)

But as usual, bc potentially it can improve your overall RP if counted, many kiasu schools and parents will still do the 4th subject la.

                        Under the current system,

Doing 4H2s has the advantage of using the weakest content subject to downgrade to H1 in the computation.

Doing 3H2s and 1H1, it is fixed, which subject is counted as the H1.

At the beginning of JC1, not everyone knows well which content subject he/she will have most difficulty with, as some H2 subjects are new, and others may be very different from secondary school in content and/or techniques.

Under the new system, if the 4th content subject is optional, we will need to see if it remains compulsory to read a 4th content subject.
