Just curious, what are schools doing for P6 Assessment this year now that \"SA1\" (or mid-year) has been eliminated?

One of my kid's school seems to be going with just non-weighted FAs in Term 1 and Term 2. I.e. no WAs or CAs that will make up a \"grade/mark\" in the report book for T1, T2, and Semester 1.

For DSA purposes, I guess this also means one's academic record is what it is as of closing the books for P5 SA2. Maybe there will be teacher comments, conduct, awards, etc to download but doesn't seem like any other \"AL Score\" is going in (subject or total). Of course, there are still the domain specific things to do / compete in during the first half of the year.

Anyways, wish everyone much luck for the year ahead.
        Same with my eldest school.
Quite concerned about this. Less stress for our psle kids, more headache for us.

I have created few workbooks with the latest data on secondary schools. It provide parent alternative for shortlisting of secondary school for selection. pls visit this link:

            https://public.tableau.com/app/profile/sg.parent

in the workbook \"Singapore Secondary School Search\", I have also added historical COP for each school. So that parents can take into consideration changes in cut off point from the pass when deciding order of school choices. pls refer to the instruction on that workbook on how to view the historical COPs.

view these workbook from computers. It will not display fully when viewed from mobile devices.

DSA should be about special talent and not marks. Hence, removing the SA1 is very apt. It will force popular DSA schools to really look at special talent. Otherwise, they may be just giving more weight to SA1 which is unfair to those kids who have special talent.

To me it appears that schools are combining special talent and marks until now and MOE now clearly shows to them what DSA is about...... and forces them to really look at special talents.

Agree if we are talking about express schools esp with FSBB.
For DSA to IP schools, as the curriculum is different, schools are not wrong to ensure the talented DSA students eg in sports or dance or arts etc who are selected, can still progress well in the academic rigour.

You know when I first know of DSA 10 years ago, I thought can only apply to schools like SOTA, NUSH, Sport School. It should be like that, rather than able to apply to top schools which need to look at the overall academic results.

May be; may not be......If they are expecting a hybrid of Einstein, J K Rowling and Joseph Schooling, it probably ain't gonna happen!

I for many years thought that DSA is for non-academic topics like sports, arts, poetry etc. When they talk about Math/Science Olympiad and English essay writing, I was surprised ! For Math/Science/English they have GE; so I am not sure why they again need DSA ..... anyway, that is the way it is. When I become the Education minister in my next life, I will talk, until then I shut up šŸ˜†

But looking from a different view, strength in English, Math Olympiad or Science is also a type of talent. Not everyone has a flair for writing, not everyone can grasp MO well, so these are also talents.

GE kids were selected in P3, not all kids who have those specific academic talents were selected. I know of kids who were quite average in their studies but achieve medals for MO because they simply love Math. Kids who love Science beyond what is taught in schools.

So I feel MOE tried to cater for all types of talents including specific academic talents, which is why they removed the general academics ability test.
