NJC students typically take a Language Arts subject in their first two years of Junior College (JC1 and JC2). This subject is a combination of English Language and Literature, with a focus on developing skills in both areas.

In JC1, students will cover foundational skills in Language Arts, including essay writing, literary analysis, and critical thinking. They will also study a range of literary texts, including novels, plays, and poetry, from various genres and time periods.

In JC2, students will build on the skills and knowledge gained in JC1, with a more in-depth study of literature and an increased focus on writing skills. They will also have the opportunity to explore their own interests in literature through individual research projects and presentations.

I know its abit early but appreciate info on how the DSA for STEAM is conducted for entry to NJC.

Is there a written test or hands on project?
        Or just an interview?
        Thank you!

          JH_1 and 2 means

          JUNIOR High,
          that is,
          Lower Secondary 1 and 2,
at 13 and 14 years old.

          Eva is not asking about
SENIOR High Junior College 1 and 2, at aged 17 and 18, preparing for A level.

          For your info,

          Inside JH_1,
          the \"JH\" part means

          \"JUNIOR\" High

If u refer back to year 2019 DSA highly extremely competitive batch,

for that specific domain \"STEM\" applied for -

Round 1 was a written test, first.

After marking the applicants' answer scripts, only those who passed Round 1 will then be short-listed or invited next, to attend Round 2 testing at NJC physical school premises (compound),

            which included a
face to face interview, with NJC Principal and the team of DSA interview selection panel.

For applicants who had failed Round 1 test, they then received rejection notification outcome.

            By the way,
if your next question I pre-empt Is that u start to ask us in this forum here : what kind of questions came out in Round 1 test ?

Then, we have to tell u that,
there Is NOTHING, to prepare at all. No need to prepare anything.
Just answer the questions naturally, in your natural self dis-position.

My bad. In NJC, students do not study English Literature specifically in Junior High (JH1 and JH2). Instead, they take a combined Language Arts subject that includes elements of both English Language and Literature.

In Junior High, the Language Arts subject is compulsory for all students, and it is intended to provide a strong foundation in language and communication skills that will prepare students for more advanced studies in Senior High (JC1 and JC2).

Cool Cat, thanks for the reply. So they do Language Arts in JH 1 & 2. What about in JH 3-4 (or Sec 3-4) Is it still language arts? If they aren’t strong in humanities, they won’t have to do Advanced Humanities. But can do double/ triple science. And there isn’t a standalone subject: English literature, am I right? Thank you 😊

Another question I have is regarding DSA via STEAM. Does anyone know what kind of credentials will enhance the student’s chance of even being shortlisted to round 1?

The Language Arts subject that students take in JH1 and JH2 is continued in JH3 and JH4, with a greater emphasis on advanced language and literature skills.

The Language Arts subject in JH3 and JH4 is designed to build on the foundation laid in JH1 and JH2, with a greater focus on critical reading, analysis, and interpretation of literary texts. Students will study a range of literary genres, including poetry, drama, and prose, and will be expected to demonstrate an understanding of literary techniques and devices, as well as the historical and cultural contexts in which texts were written.
