Hello, would like to get some feedback/comments regarding my preferred subject combi of BCM + L. Mainly is about taking Lit over Econs. I noticed that Econs is not necessary for admission into any faculty in local Uni (even Uni Econs only require Math). However, will it affect my application to overseas Uni and government scholarships? I chose Lit as I am confident of scoring well in this subject, and have a strong passion for this subject.

      Thanks!

No, it will not affect your application. Lit is a well-regarded subject so you do not need to worry.

It's good that you're choosing a subject not based on the popular choice of others, but what you're capable of!

That will also depend on which A level Literature text, u are using

[Edit: Just realised the original post is 12 Years old now and all my below advice comes 12 years late but since I expended the time and energy to write it, hope someone else will find it useful!]

Hi! I myself took PCML at a top JC, and for the same reason as you. Have a passion and inclination towards Literature. There is nothing wrong with this choice and you will not be disadvantaged at all. Most schools and admission exercised, whether local or overseas, look at your grade profile. And your "A" level score. If you are confident Literature will get you a good grade, and you are passionate about it, please do not be influenced by convention and norms. Although I was super interested in Econs too, I wanted to do Literature for my contrasting subject, but wanted science stream. Anyways, ended up with an A for H2 Literature in English. And that’s pretty much all schools care about. Also you may consider what Uni course you are interested in. Although this is rather immaterial a consideration as well. I’m absolutely positive I could have enrolled in local Econs, Business or Finance related courses without a hitch even though I’d never taken Econs. Unless you want to do prestigious overseas Ivy League or big name schools (LSE etc.), whereby, possibly not taking Econs may (or may not) affect your application chances.

Go for it, just take Literature. You probably wont regret.

I enjoyed the subject. Graduated from JC with a very good A level score in all subjects, and am now a University undergraduate / Student tutor. I tutor English, Literature in English, among many other subjects at Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Level.

All the best with your decision-making and for the 2 years of JC!
