Dd told me that past 2 weeks, almost everyday no full attendance.

Think there’s some flu bug going around as well. DD was down with very high fever and dry cough for about a week. Tested negative throughout. Lots of kids absent due to fever but all tested negative.

Our side seeing regular flu, milder symptoms. MIL had high fever. It deteriorates for the vulnerable so quickly it’s not funny. And several of DS’ teachers were C+ so absent a few days each like all taking turns.

Were they all required to test for Covid? And do you think they were given more MC is it was Covid versus some other flu-like virus? It seems it's not required to test for Covid now.
I am seeing more staff and children getting infected. Duration of MC given appears to be dependent on the doctors. Some were given 3 days, some 5 days and some 7 days.
Some are more susceptible than others to reinfection even with up to date vaccination. I have staff who are infected the 3rd or even 4th time.
My older girl had fever and sore throat last week, and the GP clinic said it wasn't necessary to test for Covid, and gave her 2 days MC. She tested positive for Covid that night (she tested because a church friend had tested positive, and she just decided she wanted to test). She was asymptomatic in about 4 days, and her office told her to WFH till asymptomatic. -
Onus is on the patients to test themselves. It is not mandatory for doctors to administer the test anymore.
Because of our line of work, we test the moment we are down with flu like symptoms. The 3, 5 or 7 days given were all staff who were covid positive who went to their own family doctor. So no longer like previously where it was mandatory 7 days or test negative whichever is earlier. Now it seems it is up to doctor’s discretion and there is no need to test negative. But for us we will require our staff to test negative before returning to work. -

I guess it is now being handled like the common cold.
Common cold also, if one goes to work or school when still unwell, it can be passed to others. -

Yes, I think it has to vary by line of work, and employers will have to set their own protocols now. For people like 3 out of 4 of my family, we only see a small no. of people in our offices, and only 2-3 days a week, so it's being treated like the flu - MC if sick, if not, keep on working. The main difference is that now there is the WFH option, so the boss can decide that on some days we can still work without taking MC, just not in the office.
