For Sec 4 Pure Science subjects
(Bio / Chem / Physics) -
only selected Sec 4 OP students will be contacted by your respective class Pure Science Teachers, to attend school tuition once a week,
if they (Teachers) think that you need help.
However,
even if your Sec 4 class Pure Science Teacher didn’t identify u, didn’t contact u,
but
If you (pupil) yourself personally feel that u too need help, u can also attend these available tuition-in-school classes. Just inform your class Science Teacher, that u wish to attend too. Then, your class Science Tr will connect u to the in-house school premises Sec 4 tuition subject Teacher. That’s how we help to strengthen our students altogether, whoever need help in that whichever academic subject,
prepare for O-level .
The help from our school, is always there.
Only concern is,
whether u can find time + energy to attend, because of other Cca commitments, over and above balancing your heavy workload of studying (8 or 9 or 10 subjects), etc. -

Apologises I should elaborate a bit. I mean those students who were not selected should give chance to those who were selected, don't be so competitive and take up space and attention from those in need.
Our school just want to help those, who want to help themselves. -

Ask your friends' 2 daughters :- which JC, she wants to go to ?Not sure where to post my questions as it is not about one school only, so if Admin thinks my post should go to another thread, please shift. Thanks.
Asking for 2 friends who have P6 kids this year.
1. Need some feedback on whether to choose Cedar Girls or St Nicks or SCGS.
2. Also, if a child is not currently in a SAP Pri, will it be hard adjusting joining a SAP Sec sch?
Kid is relatively strong in CL, taking HMT in Pri. But parents have never considered SAP Sec before and only started wondering if they should consider, so hoping for advice.
Thanks.
With the end (JC), in mind -
1)
If she wants to go to Victoria Junior College, then choose Cedar Girls.
If the student can get into \"Social Innovation\", that is good.
2)
If she prefer Eunoia Junior College, then choose either SCGS or St Nick.
Difference, between these 2 schools ?
lies in School fees !
Ask their parents,
if they don't mind paying $300+ per month, for SCGS independent school fees (be it IP or O level track) ?
If her parents don't mind, then go SCGS.
But if her parents prefer to pay $30 per month, then go St Nick.
===========================
pu-hua (O-level)
===================
What's good, about St Nick Higher Chinese ?
Don't worry ,
whether u scored minimum B3 or not, in your pu-hua (O-level).
Unlike Chung Cheng High, Anglican High Secondary school students !
Why ?
Because
even if
there happen to be any St Nick HCL students who scored a
B4 or C5 or C6 or D7 in their pu-hua (O-level) at end of Sec 3, they are still allowed to proceed, take gao-hua (O-level) at end of their Sec 4.
We don't bar nor prevent girls from taking gao-hua (O-level), just because they failed to score a minimum B3, in their pu-hua (O-level). This is what Chinese Department in St Nick practised. We don't stress our girls,in their pu-hua (O-level) grade achieved.
In fact, in reality,
based on 12 January 2023 pu-hua (O-level) results released this year,
majority of St Nick girls scored a Distinction (A1 or A2) in their pu-hua (O-level). A few (minority) girls scored B3. B3 was the lowest grade achieved by this cohort, taken last year on 8 November 2022, at end of their Sec 3. Nobody scored a ( B4 nor C5 nor C6 ), in pu-hua (O-level).
===========================
gao-hua (O-level)
=====================
All IP-A-level Secondary school students, only need to take gao-hua (O-level), at end of their Sec 4, in November 20xx.
All IP students :
NO need
to take any pu-hua (O-level) whatsoever, because they have already bypassed O-level National exam.
However,
in IP at end of Year 4 (Hwa Chong & Nanyang Girls ) -
If u failed to get a minimum B3 in your gao-hua (O level) at end of Sec 4,
then,
u still must continue to take Chinese, when u move up to Hwa Chong Year 5.
In stark contrast,
over here in St Nick, our IP students from IP (Catholic High / SCGS / St Nick), even if they have scored a D7 in their gao-hua (O-level), no worry.
No need to continue with Chinese anymore, in Year 5.
This is the difference in treatment of subject HCL,
between
IP students at Eunoia JC (Year 5)
Vs.
IP students at Hwa Chong (Year 5). -
A-level results wise, based on last year 2022 cohort, born 2004 :-
( Eunoia JC and Victoria JC ), these two are very close.
If u are staying in the east, then choose Cedar Girls, then Victoria JC.
If u are staying North / North-east / Central, then choose SCGS or St Nick and Eunoia JC (Year 5 IP).
But if u want H2 Drama, VJC offer. Not EJC.
If u don’t mind being stressed to get at least minimum B3 for your HCL (O-level), then go NYGH & join Hwa Chong (Year 5 IP), later.
But, if u are not interested in IP-A-level, then join MGS & later join IB ACSI (in Year 5).
==========================
IB (Year 5) :
Total, u study 8 subjects, including EE (Extended Essay) and TOK (Theory of Knowledge).
a) for EE (Extended Essay) -
you submit your own written thesis, about 4000 words, minimum.
What kind of EE topic (thesis) to write about, that will depend on what interests you. Got to ask yourself : what, interests you ?
This EE topic, is subject based.
Can be your favorite (Humanities or Science) based, depending on where your passion lies in.
b) for TOK -
for each new fresh Year 5 batch that comes in, ACSI school will provide a list of TOK Topics.
From there,
u choose one topic to write about.
Minimum, around 2000 words expected, for TOK topic.
English Literature subject is compulsory, under IB (ACSI) curriculum.
Boarding school
==============
If u stay far away from Dover Road,
you can stay at ACSI boarding school, if u like.
Let’s say you stay in Pasir Ris or Tampines. And travelling down to ACSI (Dover) every morning Is far & exhausting for your kid, up and down, 2 way. Can consider boarding school.
Boarding school provide food (meals) for your child, they can also iron school uniform for your kid.
If your child is a SG citizen, ACSI boarding school fees costs more than $5000 sgd, per month or per Trimester (can’t recall) ?
Can check ACSI website, for the latest up to date boarding school charges.
=========================
A-level (Year 5) :
Total, u study 4 subjects,
either 4 H2 or
(3 H2 + 1H1).
GP, is compulsory
So, if u compare Year 5
A-level (4 subjects) vs.
IB (8 subjects), that is one big difference !
IB maximum points (8 subjects) : 45
A-level maximum points (4 subjects + GP) : 70 rank points, from year 2026 onwards.
At the end of the day,
whether u are a P6 student or
a Sec 4 O-level student,
u need to answer this question, truthfully -
"Do I prefer A-level or IB or Polytechnic" curriculum track ?
If your kid prefer "hands on" Polytechnic curriculum exposure, should consider SST Secondary school.
To answer this question, u may need to ask your friends’ daughters-
What career, do they have in mind ? -

Thank you so much! Very good points which my friends appreciated very much. Based on what you shared, they already can eliminate one from the 3 choices.
