Hi, for DSA sports, child usually is AL10. Wants to apply to IP under 2 schools with cutoff for IP is 8 points, and O level track cutoff is 9M/10.

1)During DSA application, shld we put \"No Preference\", will \"No Preference\" increase the chance of getting an offer?

2)Or if put under \"IP Track\", will they just reject if they think he is not suited for IP and won't offer the O level track?

4)Should there be an offer for O level track, after PSLE results if child gets 8/7/6/5 are we able to appeal to go to IP Track?
For 4) it will depend on if sch has any more vacancy and how many dsa and appeal students applied for them. No guarantee.

For 2), it also depends on how highly in demand or highly ranked is this dsa student in the sport.

Is the child more keen on the sch or IP?

Mainly keen on IP, but also likes his sports so don't mind to use sports DSA but wants to go to IP track.
But dilemma as should he be offered the O level then if PSLE managed to score for IP track not sure if can appeal.
But then also do not want to reject if given O level confirmation as PSLE if more than AL10 then rejected the O level confirmation, end up with nothing 😓

        Any advice?

If IP is what he wants, one should put that as preference, my personal take. If sch really likes the candidate, they are likely to counter offer.

But as parent, i will be more realistic, to assess if child is really suitable to be in IP or O level is more realistic. Then review the final choice together w child.

To do well in IP, one needs attitude and aptitude. As parents, we should know if our child has both, one or other or neither.

Also, if his primary sch is one of those top schools vs neighbourhood schs, his AL10 may or may not be accurate or underestimate his performance.

I know someone usually scored AL8 but got AL5 in prelim. Her psle score was AL10. From neighbourhood sch. It depends on difficulty of papers set by sch and cohort quality.

              Hihi,
If it is a school she wants, then suggest to put both domains for one school. Example: Sports + Dance in DHS.

However, she really needs to commit to 4 years of what she chooses. So decide carefully.

We wanted to put in leadership + sport back then, but end up just sport because she cant bear doing other things other than sports for the 4 years of sec school. (Sports: school was 1st in zonal. Last year there was no nationals for her sport)

Also, my daughter’s acad results were similar to yours at P5, and it got even worse for prelims (AL16) but she managed to pull through close to the school’s COP which is similar to DHS.

              Dont lose hope. 💪🏻
Thank you so much for the encouragement. My child did not do well for p5 because she was still too unsettled and was too focused on sports (almost 6-7 days of training a week). But this year, she has a huge shift on academics and is working very hard, and I can see her grades improving to around AL 10 but there isn't any WA or mid year so the results are based on practice papers or NWA. she really hopes to get into DHS (partially peer pressure as most frens want to go there and she is stronger in Chinese so she prefers chinese school). I spoke to her, and her love is stronger for dance but that doesn't mean she doesn't love the sports she's in. Just that among the 2, she prefers dance. Appreciate your advice, it indeed gives us some positive hopes.

                Hi,

Anyone has experience going through the DSA Maths to get a IP placement in DHS? What are the prestigious Olympiads medals to target in order to increase selection chances?

You need to nail down to a specific school, when u posed this qn. Your question is too vague, for anyone to answer u.

                      Because

Different schools conduct testing for Science domain, in different ways. No single, standardized fixed method, across All schools in SG.

                      Example

SST conduct testing in a different way, compared to say, Catholic High,

                      or

NUS High conduct her testing in a different style, compared to say, Tanjong katong Secondary, and from Temasek Junior College (IP).

Can u go to the school website, and read what it Says there ?

If u cannot find info there, then give a phone call to that Secondary school u are interested in, ask to speak to that Teacher in charge of Science domain, and they will tell u Total : how many rounds of tests required, is it just one single round or 2 rounds of Science tests required, and in each round, what exactly are they testing or on the look out for, before the actual final interview, assuming that your child is being short listed.

School we are looking at is nygh. Website didnt really say much tho..hoping anyone who has past experiences can share.

My DD did not have any awards nor competition under her belt. But academic wise is within AL1 range for her sc hence thinking of giving it a try 🙂
