Hi Christine,

I am of the same views as our fellow forummers. Me too - not worried that \"there will be no bookstore at my child's school\" or that Popular bookstore will close for good. In fact, 1 of my kids' secondary school just switched bookstore vendor to Popular this year. Otherwise, these days we simply buy stationery online - online platforms are convenient (for instance they provide home delivery), prices are reasonable too (even among local sellers), & range of products is wide. Plus, there are loads of product reviews out there, cutting out the need to physically touch & feel a new bookshop product/ assessment book before purchase (I had bought some ballpoint pens & Mother Tongue assessment books just based on our forummers' recommendations). And of course, if worse comes to worst, we can easily return the bought-by-mistake product for a full refund. That's why, when my Popular card was expiring, & I still have a primary schooler, I did not bother to renew my membership

Nowadays,
you need to attain certain level of income and wealth in order to 'own' a property and car -

even HDB is beyond the reach of some fellow Singaporeans.

But I do remember $100k+ COE in the 1990s.

Car, yes, not everyone can hope to own one. But we have a pretty decent public transport system. And even in the past, it's never been that anyone can own a car. There have always been many people who don't.

If you look at HDB's calculations which they advertise in the press every now and then, most couples who are prepared to buy a small BTO in the non-central areas can usually afford a flat. Flats in Sg have never been so cheap that anyone could buy one! And what we consider choice districts now were actually quite ulu in the 70s and 80s.

I am ok with E-copy as well. I tried searching online but most of them are expensive hardcopy papers or free papers do not have proper answer keys.

Actual PSLE exam papers are sold in 3-year series in the school bookshop & also at Popular. The answer key is quite reliable. Costs only $4.05 during Open Schoolbag’s online sale now:

If u are looking for prelim papers, can find free ones online but I dunno the quality of the answers. The expensive hardcopy ones from vendors are using the same questionable answer keys.

Depressing statistics!

Suicide rate in Singapore up 25% for last year 2022 as compared to 2021.

Suicide is the leading cause of death among the youths.

Those working as counselors, psychologists, IMH staff, SOS hotline, all also poor thing. Many of them burnt out after working on all these depressing cases after a while.

My DH suggests reducing the reliance on counseling etc. and directly address the biochemistry cause. Therefore, start on medication (like Prozac) to make the brain happier. It maybe a better way to manage suicide. Stop tagging stigma to psychiatric medication.
