As you have posted similar question in more than one thread, may refer reply here :-
Oic. i think RI shortlisted ard 400 candidates for the academic domain. Any one know how many will eventually get in per subject domain? My boy is going for the sci. The email said parents can wait at the canteen & the guard will let us know where to park, but I am wondering if there are going to be allocated parking us as we are very far from RI, don't think I am driving home & back again.
Any parents with experience to share?

Well said .
i would say do not be too conc on getting the kid into IP. also hv to see if the kid can perform well in IP. pace of teaching in IP is fast. Like in my gal's school, they already going to teach finish the algebra stuff for Sec 2 in Sec 1 (algebra in Sec 2A textbook). only term 2, already got classmates failing subjects for WA. and IP sometimes have weird modules that are graded, and parents are unable to help much or difficult to find tuition. Less hand holding in IP also.
Yes the pros are no O levels to take and a near guaranteed place in a JC, but kid have to be motivated to do well which I m trying very hard to get my girl to do. my gal now is at most average in school only, no longer in the top few like in P6.
So not that one is better than the other. It is what suits your kid. One of my fren who is a teacher shared that she has seen student who has tuition in all subjects in sec school. Come to JC he does not know how to study by himself. in the end drop out of JC to go poly.
And not forgetting that in some IP schools , there’re many group discussions for humanities subjects like geo , history & literature . These are often ungraded .
You will only know where your child stands when you see the results for their pen & paper test (at most 2 per year) & YE exams .
N for certain IP schools , they don’t spoonfeed the kids . In-class teaching are more like consultation uni style . N some don’t use textbooks or come in the form of nicely stapled worksheets . The info can come in the form of online slides , SLS lessons - some kids might not like this style . -
As a reward for the effort of the child, I am thinking of taking them for a short break about a week . Any idea of the appropriate time line for this?

Umm... would it be before or after PSLE? If it is before, you should send them to some \"boring\" holiday resort for them to simmer down and reflect on their strategy for PSLE. If it is after, anything goes

I am assuming you are referring to before PSLE, since there is so much time after PSLE to do that.

If kid has finished the revision by early Sept, Sept holiday is a great time to have a getaway.
We did that with our kids during their PSLE years. Got away for 4D3N. When we returned, they just did some quick revision and one more paper per subject before the PSLE. We all agreed to chill for the few days before PSLE. No last minute revision. -
Before, I will just bring them to hawker ctrs and shopping ctrs
After, wherever they want to go. -
After PSLE we have to be around for the school visits ? As literally we did not visit the schools earlier.
Before PSLE , just look out of the window only is my idea of holiday. :pokeeye: -

PSLE marking days plus weekend is a nice window. -

Oh... it's after. Well, you get start planning now to go off after your kid finishes the last paper. The teachers won't care as they'll be busy marking. Can go for 2-3 weeks even

. My suggestion is to strictly stick to 1 week, constantly let the child know that this is just a temporary respite, albeit a well deserved one. PSLE is just the gate to a much more exciting life in the future! There's a tendency to forget and let go completely because parents are jaded from PSLE itself. Don't fall into that temptation. The rest of the period after you come back must be used to prime your child for secondary education.
