Hello All, I am new here and I would like to ask how do I prepare kids for humanities interview. Appreciate your advice. Feel free to connect if your child applied under Humanities too. Much thanks.
The kid went for HCI English (Humanities) interview last year. He said it was a group interview, 3 or 4 candidates at a time. Some questions asked were what/why (1) fav book, (2) fav author, (3) which char (in fav book) do you want to be.

His take away - Majority of kids were armed with a well-thumbed literary classics or a literary awards winning book. And the kids were prepared to discuss the book clutched in their hand. The kid gave me some titles, but I only remembered that they were books studied at O/A-levels. The kid went with a Percy Jackson book ( 🤷 ) ... 😓 :slapshead:

For more feedback on HCI DSA, do check out my comments in last year DSA (2022) thread.

      Best of luck.

Hi parents, can anyone share the criteria for humanities or bilingual special program selection for sec2 going sec3?

my child is currently in sec2, his languages seems stronger (relative) than his humanities this year

though he might not have a chance at being accepted into the special programs, i was hoping he could try to apply to gain some exposure.

also, the sec2 had a recent maths common test which it seemed like alot of kids couldnt complete the last question. My son said his maths teacher has feedback that quite a number of kids have failed, so it’s kinda worrying as maths was 1 of my child’s better subjects. I’m worried if the syllabus is too difficult for him but so far no negative feedback from
the teachers despite me asking for feedback. Generally at the last SLF, teachers were happy with his learning attitude.

Hi, above is the website shared with sec 2 parents last year, regarding streaming and Talent Programmes.

Do note that it's NOT updated for this year - but perhaps can be a reference for anyone interested.

thanks for the info! very much appreciated
May i know if it means only HP students can read 2 humanities subjects? and if so, it can only be Eng lit and Geog or history?

meaning not possible even for HP students to do Geog and History?

as my child likely will take the 7 core (EL, HCL, IM, Phy, Chem, SS) and he has german 3rd language
and we were considering for him to drop german to take geog and history

but seems like no such combi and even for 2 humanities, its only for HP students and eng lit is compulsory

is my understanding correct (per last yr info)?

                  thanks!

The above is correct as of last year; HP = SS + E Lit + Geo or History. Previously, HP included all three of E Lit + Geo + History with SS infused in a couple of the classes. I think E Lit has always been a core component of the HP (E Lit is also required in the JC HP), i.e. no option for just Geo and History.

So I guess wait and see what they say it is this year, but I’d guess it will be the same as last year.

any idea if there are criteria for taking Computing as a regular subject? Does the child have to be in CTP to read Computing? (i know being in CTP requires Computing, so wondering if can read Computing without being in CTP)

also, any parent can share what they learn in Y3/4 for Computing?

Kids should be able to take Computing as a subject outside of the CTP. Look for the Additional Subjects section and there should be some information on Computing.
