Hello everyone, I would like to ask for your suggestions on children's interests. My niece is ready to try out new interests since I've been watching her for a few months. What pastimes would you advise for a kid her age? Next month, she will turn 4 years old. She enjoys singing and painting, but her parents are hoping to find something that can make her more physically active.
That's good. It's an important age. Singing and painting are good long term activities. How about ballet and dance arts? If she is good at them, can develop skills further and she will get some skills suitable for SOTA admission 7-8 years down the road. It's important to start now before it is too late.

Hi. Just want to ask if it's still okay to enroll my 10 y/o daughter in ballet school. She didn't say to me directly that she wanted to be admitted but I overheard her say to my sister that learning ballet would be fun since her friends are doing it too. 😰

It's OK in terms of just learning. But unless she's very talented, she will probably find it hard to catch up with others her own age who started at 5 or 6. I started learning ballet at age 11 (this was in the 70s!) and was in a class with kids much younger. I joined with a friend of the same age, so I had company. It looked really odd as we were both almost full-grown, and in a class of 6yo kids. We skipped a grade after the first year, but even so, we were always the oldest in the class. We learned for about 3+ yrs before we decided to stop. We don't regret it - it was fun, and it laid the groundwork for other kinds of dance. Later, at 17, we both started learning other types of dance - tap, jazz ballet, and more classical ballet, just for fun. My friend went on to be very involved in swing dancing, and more recently, Chinese dance! I got lazy and haven't done any dancing since about 19yo.

Wow that's nice! I have a similar experience except joining with a friend. I had to join late too when I was 10 (turning 11) due to financial problems. I had a hard time catching up but it was worth it! I did other types of dance too but eventually stopped when i had to enter univ. After giving birth to my first kid, I started doing zumba then yoga after a few months til now. πŸ˜‚

That's really heartwarming to hear! Your journey is so inspiring, even though I didn't have the same experience. It's amazing how you overcame challenges and found your way back to dance through Zumba and yoga. Keep dancing to the rhythm of life! πŸ’ƒπŸ§˜β€β™€οΈπŸ˜Š

If her parent's hoping to find something that make her more physically active, ballet is the way to. And it's a perfect age to start also.

Agree. Learning ballet at her age would be nice. Would help her physically as well as learn discipline and focus.

About $500-600 per semester depending on the academy. 😊
