Hi
My DD has a CO for Music, and today we received an email inviting her for a scholarship interview. Does anyone have any information on this, current/past students, what the interview entails?
And I would love to connect with other parents with CO (any domain) and planning to join Sota next year, pls do pm, thank you. -
Dear SOTA parents or students,
May I know whether SOTA follows MOE practice where there’s no mid year exams for Sec 1 and Sec 3? Also, how assessments are being conducted? Like is it typical written style or project style etc? Is their art form an examinable subject?
For LA students, would appreciate if anyone can share what time they end school typically and how many hours they get to spend on this art form.
Many thanks in advance. -
Hi, may I know if IB Chinese B in SOTA is difficult, and is the HCL Chinese B same as HCL o levels?
-
My niece was admitted to SOTA. However she just pass for both English n Chinese.
How is the English and Chinese like? They will need to study for 6 years?
Chinese can opt standard only or everyone is compulsory to take higher? -
Does anyone have trouble buying book on pacificbookstores.com? Can’t make payment because the server is down. My DO will be sec 1 next year at SOTA.
-
Hi, I am able to make the payment for textbooks. I did it on a much later date though.
Btw, which uniform do they wear more often? Is it the stripped t-shirt or the polo t-shirt. They have so many different tshirts and I am wondering if they are allow to wear either of them on a daily basis. -
The auntie at the uniform shop will advise. She is quite pro. 😄

Hi,
My son is in P6 now and has been drawing since little. Attached last drawing of his dad. Everyone encouraged him to apply for Visual Arts in SOTA, however we are concerned if he could sustain the academic rigour once inside, because he is not academic at all. His P5 AL was 22 so he had to work hard to bring this to at least 20 to qualify for the required level, to begin with. He did better in languages but both English and Chinese were still at AL 5 also. Any thoughts from experienced SOTA parents? I wonder if kids who can’t study like this will be better off taking normal O level or IB which is supposed to be more holistic? Thanks in advance.

That's a pretty good drawing, but mine is an untrained eye

The thing to worry about are his results, which are not up to par. I think SOTA teachers may use his P5 results to decide if they want to offer, but I'm not sure. What is important is his dedication to his art. There should be a portfolio of his works, besides this drawing of his dad. Things like some Singapore scenery, people playing soccer, etc. Boost up his portfolio and his results. -

I’m not a sota parent. But my advice is that results should come before talent. Your concerns are valid. I like to encourage you that it’s not necessary that he has to go Sota to hone his gift. Whichever school he goes; there are many options to help in his artistic talent. Perhaps find a secondary school within his range that has solid art programs? Or find private classes for him. I don’t think it’s necessary to go sota. My daughter is an avid dancer; but it was never in our minds to go sota to delve in her craft as she feels she’s getting equally good training outside. What I’m saying, there’s no one route to help achieve his goals; there are many ways !
