Hi can I check if the child enters into the secondary school via DSA O level track but does well enough in PSLE to achieve the IP track in the same school (school offers both IP and O level). Is it possible to appeal to transfer to IP track instead?

Was thinking if I may overstep. Just sharing my view.

Sch teachers will not know if the child has tuition for every subject or not. They can only know the child to a certain extent. Many educators see children in positive light
Parents will know their child best.

No worries, its good to open up for discussion.

Those teachers who I spoke to, mostly know my girl personally. This include a school teacher who is our direct neighbor, her tutor, a family friend who knows everything about my kids and she is teaching in a IP school. Her 3 years form teacher who is in close contact with us. My girl is committed to her talent which requires insane hours of training thus tuition is minimum. And this year, she went through a lot (including injury) which impact her performance in her talent as well as mental stress arising from it. Yes, Parents will know best but when the path our kids choose are not the normal or popular ones, we tend to doubt ourselves too.

Anyway, just sharing our journey for this DSA route.

Hi. You can appeal but I believe you are appealing along with everyone else that hit the IP COP. Whether there is any preference given to the DSA O Level kids is hard to say / probably depends on the school and the student (some schools have said that the DSA O Level kids will be high on the list, whatever that means). Unfortunately, there does not appear to be any ability to automatically \"upgrade\" based on the results. Hence, I think the ability to switch tracks is based on a) vacancy becoming available (probably not many spots) and b) the school selecting you to give the IP spot to.

Good luck and hope your kid enjoys the last few weeks of primary school (not sure if done today or still needs to sit for HMT tomorrow).

That was my initial thought too, but then i realized that the S1 posting appeals take place only on the day of posting results.

For DSA students, upon PSLE results day, I guess u can go straight to the school to appeal on that day itself. No idea whether they will entertain u, but u can try. If successful, it will free up an Express seat for the S1 posting folks (as well as subtract from IP LOL).

I'm not 100% sure but I would think that any spots (IP and O) not taken by COs or converted WLs will be released to the S1 Posting process (for the respective track). Even if a school has more IP DSA capacity (below 30%-35% or whatever percentage they are comfortable with), I'm not sure they can \"take back\" a spot from the S1 process (and give a spot to the O track). I would think the vacancy numbers become fixed at the point CO/WL outcomes are finalized, but who knows.

As for banging on the door on the day of PSLE results, I guess that is a good point. There were a few people last year that received and accepted O, although I think the IP COP was well within the expected range for the student. Nevertheless, I believe most of them gave little chance to the prospects of switching tracks (based on what was wrote above), and accepted O assuming that's where the child will be. I'm not sure how things turned out, and if you raise your hand in late-Nov or late-Dec (if trying to switch tracks).

I think I saw some news that this year DSA application was higher compared to last year. So is the DSA intake for those IP schools higher than last year? Will this impact the cutoff points to even lower for the few limited vacancies now?

I think it is most likely that the IP DSA intake is about the same year to year. I believe most of the IP schools will be at/near capacity (30%-35% for most, maybe 40% for one/a couple/some), although there are probably some schools that are not absolutely full (not all COs taken up, still some space after all WLs converted, etc).

Note, this year's cohort size is probably going to be ~1,000 students larger than last year's cohort size. If the same percentage of students qualify for Express/G3, that could be ~800 add'l students to fit into the non-IP G3 schools (opposite of last year when there were about 1,400 fewer students to be posted to this group of schools). There could also be slightly more students at AL6 or AL8/9 looking for IP spots in the S1 posting.

We don't see the details but there could also be (slight) fluctuations year-to-year in performance and choice (in addition to DSA intake and affiliated students' performance/choice), so it is hard to map anything 1:1 or be absolutely certain of why COPs move. However, in the aggregate there are likely some reasonable assumptions that can be made.

I was just chatting with my friend about this yesterday.

Last year is the year of Tiger. Hence the birth rate is lower as compared to previous year and this year. If you noticed, last year some of the schools cut off point are higher (Easier to get in). I did advise my friend to put a cut off point either the same or higher for her kid's first choice. In general, Rabbit birth rates are higher and hence more students for the same number of space. I suppose same goes to DSA assuming schools did not increase the intake.

Hi parents, I would like to find out more about DSA, IP vs IB. Can any kind souls share some information with me? Many thanks. Trying to find out more , in order to gauge whether I should try for DSA next year or not or whether he stands any chance. My son has won 2 science Olympiad, 2 math Olympiad this year, prefect, won bronze for NSG this year. He was topped in his cohort past few years. Appreciate some advices. Thanks a million.
