May I know if the concept behind this question is within the primary school science syllabus? Basically they were taught what force is, effects of force, what is weight, the type of forces etc. Is this concept within what is taught in primary level? Pardon my ignorance, My secondary school kid used what he learnt in upper level physics to explain this answer, which then Made me wonder.

I don't think this question is beyond the syllabus, it's just common sense.
It doesn't require kids to calculate velocity or acceleration. they just need to know that the ball experiences only gravity during flying, and that knowledge is sufficient to rule out the incorrect option.

Thanks! I figured that as much! It was a cleverly set question. I suppose if they had simply asked what are the forces acting on the ball in mid air, most would have answered it correctly. SEAB you are so scary!

Yup the way they set the paper is so tricky. It’s deceptive. I think 1) push force being used up is correct. Most students confuse force with energy. There’s only gravity(non contact force) which takes weight into account and energy conversion from EPE to KE to GPE if I’m not wrong.

The question was ,according to my child, a paper lantern with a candle and flame inside. The metal wire was on top of the candle used to hold the lantern. Paper is a poor conductor of heat so the paper conducted the heat away from the flame at a slower rate causing the paper to turn brown and burn. The paper lantern did not catch on fire. One question the GEP boys are arguing right now is the question where the ball was pushed upwards causing it to move in a curve and they asked what was false about forces. 1) The push force was used up causing the ball to fall (My son's answer)
2) The weight of the ball caused the ball to slow down. I would appreciate your opinions on this question. Thank you!

Actually what exactly is the question? Is (2) phrase correct? Because it mentioned caused the ball to slow down or is it supposed to cause ball to fall down?

While the ball is still rising, gravity causes it to slow down... and once the velocity reaches zero, it begins to fall down.

Both the slowing down and the falling down are caused by gravity.

There is sequence of events for this. First, the ball slowed down. Then the ball holds in mid air. Last the ball falls. Is the qn asking only abt the ball falling?

Hi parents, i have not got a chance to read from starts and since PSLE is over, i’m thinking what would be the most ideal advice for my gal. slowly i will read post in here backward when i have time…


Her Prelim result was AL8. and all my SIL/BIL suggested should let her take IP if her psle result can get into IP school.

After looking at school that offer IP, seems like quite limited to a few only. Right from start, my gal says she prefer a mixed school and if can, she doesn’t want a girl school but if have to, she also ok. (i know she doesn’t mix well with girl but mix well with boys…haha)

so, i guess if her result if good enough for IP, i guess her best option should be Dunman High (mix), Cedar girl, CHIJ St Nicholas Girl and SCGS. mainly girl school… hehe

if she cant get into IP, then the most ideal school for her would be Anderson Secondary (mix), Cedar girl, Chung cheng Main (mix), chij Toa payoh, MGS,

any other good choices for her around Punggol area?

Nan Chiau High School at Sengkang. Similar to CCHM.
