Just want to add, for IP, it’s not easy to find tuition as well, especially for subjects like Science and Math because the coverage of the syllabus differs from school to school. There are only a handful of tuition centres that cater to IP students, and they are mostly around bt timah area. These centres may even open classes catering to each IP school or group similar IP schools together. So, availability of classes is also limited. Or you may need to resort to 1-1 tutors.
Test papers are also not easy to find. Plus, topics and format tested could be very different, so there’s really no use trying to do other IP school papers. -

Plenty of Chinese tuition classes around for IP Chinese.
Agree, actually she can handle her school work well without tuition until beginning of p6 when we ask her any subject she needs help, then only we send her to maths tuition. She did attend Chinese tuition since p1.. my wife scares they eat potato if don't force them take Chinese tuition . As for science, her strongest paper all the time, always the top few in class even without tuition and coaching from us.. she is a person who can and will do up a nice mind map notes herself
If she can do well for PSLE Science, then there should be no fear for the IP Science. There will be an adjustment period for sure. In IP schools, kids are encouraged to seek out teachers for consultations when they need help.
No need assessment books or exam papers. It is much better to go ask the teachers to provide extra questions if kids need practice questions. -

They have more resources to teach Chinese language and culture (an example is my child’s SAP school has a 茶艺馆)if the child is willing to put in effort too. If your child decide on O level, Another incentive of taking Higher Chinese in SAP school is the 2 bonus points (a pass will do) from taking Higher mother tongue. These 2 points can make the difference between meeting cut off point or not, get admitted or need to ballot, for any prefer JC. Do take note too there will be an exam in Sec 3 to gauge whether students are good enough to take Higher Chinese at Sec 4 O level exam. Some parents play safe by sending child to SAP school affiliated with a JC. Should they don’t qualify to take Higher Chinese O level, they still can use the 2 affiliation bonus points to apply to the affiliated JC.

Well, my wife just want her know Chinese and not become a potato, she doesn't like Chinese actually and even when she was offered to take HCL, she doesn't want it and we didn't force her to take too. And she did mention she doesn't want a secondary school that focus on Chinese.. so I guess sap is out too. Haha..

But i am also of the belief that it is not easy to get into good JCs via O level results. If the child has already scored well in PSLE and qualifies for a good IP school, just let them go. Why make them compete again at O levels for fun? Unless they really find it fun.[/quote]
I agree with what Zac’s mum is saying . It isn’t that fun to take another national exam …
One of the beauty of IP bypassing O level is you can aim for an end-point of 4 subjects at A level . So along the way if the student mess up certain subjects , it’s kinda fine - just narrow down to the best 4. -
I have discovered one thing (which is rarely discussed here): in order for a child to be considered for lateral transfer to a higher stream (and this applies for NT to NA, NA to Exp, Exp to IP) he must score at least an average of 70 in all core subjects, ie be in the top band of students in that stream.
However, the child who is already in that stream (via PSLE score), only has to (pass English, and) score an average of 50.
There may be some minor variations of these requirements but they are minor.
In view of this, my opinion remains: give u free Ferrari u dun want, say u want to slog and buy your own bmw. Nowadays COE liddat so fun to work for it ah. -
How do you know if one wouldn’t get into fatal accident driving Ferrari to KL the next day? Not everyone likes Ferrari. Forgoing Ferrari may lead to Lamborghini, who knows right. what is life’s end point? Why use same measure for different children?
From O to IB, was told the bar is 85pc. So O to IP shouldn’t be too shabby. -

For those not doing well, in 50 range or below, hard to imagine what they are going through to be envied. And knowing there are still those who are scoring 90s there...
Kind of like taking HCL in sec sch. Only staying afloat at 50s and always wondering if it's good enough to get a decent grade for CL when time calls for it.
U cant exchange a IP place for something else so easily i believe. And i believe you may not understand fully, as IP is not abt skipping a national exam. This national exam to IP kids are nothing. Once upon a time, when there is no IP, many of these kids did very well too easily. Hence come about IP. So we are talking about different groups of children here.
Kids who get AL4, 5, or 85-90 pc, yes, they are clear cut cases. Usually they still score very well in sec sch. The in between ones 6-8 are less definite but most will get the hand of being stretched sooner or later. But they should do decently well in Os too. Generally speaking.
