I think as long as 1 parent's birth cert shows Hokkien as dialect, then that parent will be able to join SHHK. Sadly for me, my dad is Tamil and my wife's dad is Teochew.
Really? I am Hainan and my wife is hokkien. We got into SHHK because of that. But that was donkey years ago, so they may have changed the rules...

Your case happened a long time ago. SHHK has changed to new rules.

For a child to join SHHK, the father must be hokkien, not the mother.
It is the father's dialect group that is important. Not the mother.
Pls read the conditions below, received 10 minutes ago by email reply. Thank you.
=====================
Dear Parent,
SHHK membership applicants must be Singapore citizens of at least 21 years of age and ancestry can be traced to Fujian Province.
We follow the Chinese traditional way of identifying the dialect group of a person via the paternal lineage, i.e. the father’s dialect group.
Hope this clarifies. Thank you.

Though I must say I'm more fluent in Hokkien than Hainan, which I only know 1 word... Ah Bu. I still remember how my Auntie (ie. Ah Neen) said to the 4yo me, after dinner one day:
\"Ah Fatt (that's me), you want to eat Ah Bu?\"
I cried then. I thought she was referring to my mom :yikes:
Apparently, it means APPLE :faint: -
Dear fellow parents,
We wish to register our elder son to St Hilda Primary next year, I have been visiting Anglican Church since 2021 but I only got baptised in Oct this year.
When researching about the 2B application criteria, I released that, Anglican Church requires the student’s parent to be baptised for at least 12 months before the time of application. In our case, we will be applying for 2B on July 2024, so it will be less than 12 months. In this case, do we still stand a chance for phrase 2B under church member? Is there anyway to appeal since we have been rather active in Church since 2021?
Thanks a lot! -

Since this rule was set by the Anglican church (not MOE), then u will have to ask your higher-ups/connections in the church whether there’s any avenue to appeal.

Hi xueyu
Hi I'm looking for members from SHHK to sign me up. I just need one more signature for my boy who is balloting in 2023. Please PM me.
Thank you in advanced!
I wish to join the hokkien huay kuan as member and am looking for sponsors.
If you are currently a member, can you help me please?
Greatly appreciated! -
I am appealing for help for two members of SHHK for my application.
Willing to drop by to your place and accommodate your time to have the application signed.
I would like to register my son for a Hokkien clan school for 2029. Please help if it is not a competition to your little ones.
Thank you!!! -
Generally, is it any Methodist church leader can endorse the letter for phase 2B? Understand it the requirement for each church is different. My husband is Baptised but not under any denomination. Would he need to go through another round of baptism?
I’m planning way ahead to get my daughter into PLMGS - saw somewhere that PV is no longer available and we stay more than 2km away from the school 🥲 -

I’ve not come across any Methodist church offering letter of endorsements for P2B.

With Methodist churches, u’ll need to be a member before u can request for a letter to support your child’s primary school enrollment into a Methodist affiliated school.
For new members to a Methodist church, u’ll hv to attend the full membership course, which typically last almost a year & either be baptized thereafter or go thro a Confirmation of Membership (not ano baptism) with the Methodist church & after u’ve written in to yr previous church to release u for transferring church membership fr the church u previously acquire membership.
In this respect, it’s good to prepare at least a year ahead to complete all requirements of the Methodist church u’re seeking membership from.
Irrespective of a letter for yr child’s enrollment, u might still need to be within 1km to secure a place under 2B esp if there is a over application of applicants vis-a-vis the number of places available.
Hope abv info helps. -

Thanks for answering my questions. That’s very helpful. I might have used the wrong word ‘endorsed’ but I got what you mean.

Is it a must to have the ‘release of church membership’ process? My husband hasn’t attend one since years ago 😅
And would they need both parents to be baptised? Or that also depends on church?
Understand that distance places a part - but better than taking the phase 2C bet in my area again 😞
