My older girl is in NYGH sec three. I highly recommend the school. My girl ends at 5:00pm for CCA days ( twice per week) and 6:45pm ( once a week) for third language day. Most school program can be paid by Edusave. There are also all sorts of financial help available.

I wish my younger girl ( PSLE this year) did well enough for NYGH! She got AL8D which is not bad but sadly not good enough to join her jie jie...

@kab, it's really informative to hear from parents with child from the mentioned school, thank you and really appreciate it. Your younger girl's AL8 with distinction in HMT is no mean feat. I felt that it can be so much more stressful for a younger sibling to do well enough to join her sister, but I'm sure she'd thrive at any school too.

What does this mean? The new principal removed the O level SIP class? What does it mean when you says unless parents opt in? I don’t think if one student opts in, the Sch will spend the resources to open the O level class just for one person right? It doesn’t sound systematic or cost effective to me.

My friends' DD goes from Boon Lay MRT to RGS by train. NYGHS is certainly doable. Do note that the girl needs to change bus at MRT (1 or 2 stop I think from Tan Kah Kee). Then Year 5 and 6 is at HC, which is right above MRT and not much walk.

Many students drop out of third language at some point. I dont have stats, but only 20-30% continue to write exam.

Dont worry about campus facilities - i think there is over emphasis on this in forums. All top schools are good in my opinion.

I do not know much about scholarships, may be others can give their opinion.

AL4M is eligible for ESIS, your results slip would have stated which is $2400 per year for 6 years, covers most of NYGH fees. Need to top up for RGS.

For commuting, alternatively, you can consider to take bus 174 to Bukit Timah, no need transfer and get to seat from start to end with mostly accurate timing of bus from Boon Lay Bus interchange. The journey in the morning quite alright. You can see many HCI, NJC, and others on the bus along the way. You can try taking the different routes together with your girl during holidays to familiarise. I heard from friend NY's reporting time is 8:15am for most days. Hence they chose it.

But if your girl is not into Chinese, RGS may be more suitable? Which school to chose highly depends on the student, whether her unexpected high performance was her own abilities or with a lot of assistance and whether she is strong in Chinese or not or not into too much chinese based activities or program. But no matter what, competition among the best students should be expected. Competition can be healthy and may help each other to pursue excellence. But competition can also be toxic, plays politics, in order to stand out among others. Some are so talented and motivation, it may be interpretated wrongly as too ambitious and toxic. So it really depends on the personality of the child.

As long as the child can have a small group of 2 or 3 close friends to start with, it will make a big difference in her sch life, I strongly believe.

What she has achieved is exceptional! All the best to her!

Some CCAs may need one time top ups, you can try asking more about this from gurus.

@00skyblue00 Thanks for sharing in great details, especially on the interpretation of 'toxic' environment where I think many children tend to say that rather easily. I think it's really informative in helping us arrive at a more informed decision eventually.

2023 Year 3 SIP students will be the last batch

School may reduce number of DSA applicants for non academic areas or
increase the COP for all DSA applicants

Since almost all NYGH students will move to HCI for their Year 5 & 6,
applying HCI (JC) from O level route could be tougher since less seats are available

Just my thoughts ~

May I know if the cut off point for ESIS is AL5, does it mean all SC w AL5 will be eligible? Or the top one third who qualify for IS will strictly narrow down to the last single one who falls within top one-third according to your raw total marks?


Just wondering if any AL5 SC who didn’t get ESIS?

Those students with AL 14-20 cannot join NAS. They have to go to another school with a worse G3 COP. They cannot join G2 posting group.

So AL21 is competing among the G2 group of applicants. U have a risk of being balloted out, but you should still try at first choice.

Use moovit for journey planning. It shows multiple routes.
