Dear parents, DD want to apply MEP at Y1 after orientation, we are not sure she can succeed or not.
But now can choose 3rd language in S1 OPTION FORM.
I would like to know can submit the 3rd language first and then drop it if we got into the MEP (as I know only choose one from MEP and 3rd language) ?
      Thanks in advance.

I suggest you call up the school tomorrow to check
They should be able to advise you more.

Of course, u submit MOELC 3rd language choice first now.

          Why ?

          Because

for some (certain) 3rd languages, they are so popular, so hot in demand, even over subscribed !

          In early January 2024,
RGS will conduct audition for MEP. If your daughter really get selected (offered), assuming that she is successful for MEP, and say, between 3rd language vs. MEP, if her heart slants more towards in favor of music (MEP), then

just submit the Withdrawal form from 3rd language (MOELC) anytime, to let her focus on MEP. By then, you are allowed to choose only one : either MEP or 3rd language (MOELC). Not both.

On the other hand, if she is not successful with MEP, then just continue with her 3rd language (MOELC).

              Dear Parents!

I am hoping for your advice. My daughter has a score of 6D and her dream school is RGS. However, we had advised her (after reading the posts here) that she would be subjected to balloting for a spot.

Her current choices for submission of schools:

              1) RGS
              2) NYG
              3) NJC
              4) SCGC IP
              5) Cedar IP
              6) RVH

2nd,3rd and 4th was based on proximity. As a parent, I felt that she should place NYG as her first choice and had explained to her the practicality of attending a school closest to home. She understood but decided to still give RGS a shot.

Hence, I’d like to seek some advice from Parents on the odds of getting into NYG with her score because from reading the discussions from 2019 onwards, it seemed that her chances of getting into RGS is extremely low with a 6. Most importantly, I felt that I should try to gather as much information as possible in guiding her in choosing a school.

              Thank you!!!

p.s. she had attended open houses for school 1 to 4 and.

Congrats.. let her try since she is the one studying, not parents. I'm in the same situation too. Anyway, your 2-4 choices are quite safe..

Since your daughter likes RGS so much, let her try. After all, she Is the one studying, not you (parent). Who knows, if she is successful during balloting for RGS, she will get in. Once you participate in balloting at the border line boundary Cut off point, for whichever Sec school u are interested in, your chance of admission entry is only ... 50%

But have to let her know the consequences, before hand. If she is lucky during RGS balloting, she will enter RGS. Otherwise, she might be posted to National JC, if her 2nd choice school : Nanyang Girls High is unsuccessful, during balloting time.

Thank you! I will let her know that her chances of getting into her school other than RGS diminishes as it goes down the list and may even hit the 6th or none.

I'm actually happy with schools close by which is NYGH and NJC but our kid had worked to score a chance (though a tiny sparkle), to try for her dream school. I really don't want to discourage her of trying but reality is, numbers matter.

Thank you again!!!! Appreciate your input!

Congrats to your daughter excellent results!

Based on last 2 year COP, NYGH’s COP is 7D. It means that AL6 should have a very high chance of entering if she got ballot out of RGS.

Give it a shot since RGS is her dream school!
I wish her all the best in her S1 posting!!!!
