All About Full-Time Maids

Actually I don't mind if she has things to keep private. If I respect hers, hopefully she will respect my privacy? Typically only if she's leaving for home then I'll ruffle through her stuff.
Do you think I should get her to unlock her bag? My reservation is that when we are out during weekends or anytime she likes, she can just take things and put inside her locked bag. Even though I will normally check bags of maids before they go, but so far all my maids leave on good term so I just cast a quick glance on their bag before they go and do not do a thorough check.
If I should get her to unlock her bag what will be a good way to tell her to do that without sounding that she will take things from us and put inside her bag??
If you are worried about her taking and putting inside her bag, I think you should rather worry about her taking things and passing it on to her friends. -
Oh ya! My previous maid also locked her luggage. From this incident on, it became one of my houserule. I put it in writing that this is one of the house rule she must adhere to. Because you wouldn’t know what she has in the luggage especially when she has off day. She can just hide the thing inside and on her off day she brings it out. Her own personal thing I don’t really care but who know what she will be hiding inside. If some maids can even keep their own nails, hair etc what else more??!!

You know mummies, I m staying in Bukit Panjang and there’s this Filipino maid in her 40s, really can yak non-stop. Whenever I meet her downstairs, she will be talking to someone for sure. And I m not talking about 5-10m mins chat but more than 30mins to hours kind of chat. I don’t like it because I worry my maid will be influenced by this maid.
What I cannot understand is how come the employer can tolerate such behaviour. Sometimes, I see a whole bunch of maids throwing parties/gathering on weekday afternoons. I also don’t understand why employer can tolerate this. Don’t they have to take care of kids??!! -
Just curious, has any one here employed a Thai maid before? my cousin has one for the past 5 yrs and she cooks very good thai food.

Your DD must be pampered by everyone in the family...Recently I had quit from a managerial post in a MNC company..The reason is very simple...I want to have a quality life with my family; to be able to spend more time with my only 5 yrs old girl...Its been almost a month and I'm still enjoying...In fact, I find its more tiring than working..not mentally but physically....I need to chauffeur her to school every morning and send her for classes in the afternoon...running here and there and seems like never ending....These days, you will not be easily cut off from society.....we have the internets, facebook etc.... I had a good fren who quit her job when her only child was enrolling in P1 and that was like 6 years ago...Her child is in Sec 1 this year and she has just returned to work...Yes, I'm very blessed. I'm an advanced age first time Mom and have a very good support system.
My MIL loves DD very much. This is because on both sides of my PILs families, they have had sons only. DD is the first girl to make an appearance in 24 years. DD is also the first and only grandchild on my side of the family. She is very privileged and I hope not too spoilt.
DH supports my decisions, be it SAHM or FTWM.
Ironically, it's my Mom and MIL whom do not agree to my being a SAHM. They said I'm still young and should not be \"cut off from society\". -

My maid kept her nails. I found out and asked her to throw away. -

Hi Hi!
My maid just went back to Indonesia for two weeks home leave. I am also on leave so that I can look after my 3 yo son. It has been 2 days and so far so good! But cooked something this evening my son didn't like and did not eat. Did he miss aunty (the maid)? Well yesterday after sending maid to airport we came back and he asked for something from the fridge. When I did not give him, he ran to aunty's room to look for her (because I guess she always give in to him!) then ask \"Where\"? Other than that, I think out of sight, out of mind. Take some getting use to for me to look after DS full-time once every year for 2 weeks but looking forward to it!

Hi Duriz! It was a luxury not to have worked for a year and a privilege to be with my daughter for 8 months........Personally, I'd much prefer not working, doing housework and looking after my daughter than engage a FT maid. DH supports my decisions, be it SAHM or FTWM.
Ironically, it's my Mom and MIL whom do not agree to my being a SAHM. They said I'm still young and should not be \"cut off from society\".
You are very blessed indeed to have such supporting PIL and hubby! So you actually have a choice whether to be sahm or ftwm. But I guess you must have your own reasons for returning back to the work-force after 1-year else you would have just quit altogether!
For me, I am a FTWM with a very supportive maid hence I can feel safe going to work. But given the choice I would like to quit and stay at home too because there are lots of things to do for the family. But family and friends mainly not supportive because of financial considerations ie. kid still young and what about own retirement planning?
Anyway, yah, do consider hiring a maid for your MIL!
