Hi i am helping a friend ask: looking for the parents Whatsapp group for those with kids posted to St Andrew’s Secondary for Sec 1 2024.
Pls pm me thanks! -
This is a good primary school with affiliation to a good secondary school. I am flabbergasted why someone would chose to give up on this school and go to RS in the east without any affiliation. Grab hold of this primary school due to its affiliation with the secondary. The recent PSLE and O level exam results have shown better improvements with each passing year, resulting in lower COP into preferred secondary or JC.

Not sure if it’s a right place to ask; Just wondering if there’s any parents can share more about St Andrew’s Junior School.
I put my child in for waitlist and intend to enrol his younger sibling as due to the affiliation
However, I’ve been seeing some comments in a Facebook group recently that there are some disciplinary issues with SAJS students . Though I understand every school will have their fair share of bullies etc. but for parents to name the school, I was wondering what could it be. I’ve tried asking in the group but to no avail. -

I was in St Andrew's for 10 years, from 1973-1982. Long time ago, yes. From my point of view, the primary school section was worth the trouble, and the secondary school was average. I'm sure things would have changed by now.

Back then, have a friend (a father) who signed up for the Parent Volunteer (PV) programme inside St Andrews Junior primary school under Phase 2B, so that his son can get a place into SAJS 2014 Primary 1, then.

My friend (the father) got selected, as a PV. However, in the process of doing (carrying out) his PV duties for more than one year there, week after week, in the end, he decided not to enrol his son anymore inside this primary school. In the end, he chose to enrol his son into another primary school instead, inspite of having clocked up the number of PV hours required, in SAJS. He just let his Phase 2B (PV) opportunity lapse, on that Phase 2B day he was due to register his K2 son, into this primary school.
Do u have any friend as a PV, inside this school ? You can go & ask them, what they observed inside this primary school. When u are a PV, u can see some things, which outsiders do not know (nor see).
Don't just look at the lower primary level ( 1 and 2 ) only, just because your son is entering into P1 admission. But, also look at the Upper primary level : P5, P6. After all, once your son is admitted in, he will study all the way for entire 6 years, from P1 to P6, right ? -

Hmmm. Not sure about the secondary school but the comments that I saw in FB are for the primary school section. Hence I’m concerned…

Secondary school average but the COP for non affiliate is still quite high 😅 -

The true intent of PV is for parents to check out the school they are interested in. Your friend could have seen something he didn't like or maybe something else happened. We do not know, and can only guess at the situation. What we know is that doing PV is important for us to make our own assessment of the situation.
