Hi AHsDad, thanks for your insight. Definitely helps! From your reply, RI should b out of our league. My son with SA judo. Been talking to the coaches at the academy but their replies are very generic. Like grades must be AL 6 below, say HCI see grades first. Maybe must talk to the head coach directly & attend open house in May.
Hi there. AL13 may be slightly higher than the expected grade for either HC and RI. Minimally must be top3 in the Nationals and deemed capable to handle the IP course. Iirc, last year (sec1 in 2023) RI took in ZERO for Judo and 2 only in 2022. So it means even if u are the best, no guarantees.
Perhaps AL13 can be mitigated by midyr P5 or P4? So… no harm just try lah. Big question is does ur son train in SA Judo (HC) or TDJ (RI) or neither? Coach can help advise and speak to the teacher-in-charge to put up their respective case.
On the other hand, SJI (under SOJ) may have higher probability of acceptance. Hope this helps and all the best! -
Hi, need advice. What are the chances of my son gaining admission to NUSH if he hasn’t participated in math/science olympiad training? his school results for math is always above 90.

The chances of your son entering NUS High, will depend on his ability, to clear the internal tests administered by the school itself.
Your son's results above 90 : is not important. What's important is, he must sit for NUSH tests & passed them. -
Hi,
Anyone that has experience on DSA STEM for DHS?
Considering STEM is a broad area, how are the selection rounds conducted?
Are there group interviews, essays or maths tests conducted?
What are the chances when DD is only good at Maths? -
Hi Parents, am checking for experiences for English DSA. My dd has not participated in any writing contests, but has love for English language. Also consistently good results for English ( though understand good is subjective) She is competitive in sports and it was a sudden change in P6 this year that she decided not to DSA using the same sport she is competing in, and we respect and support her decision not to. It has gotten too hard physically and now its “boring” . She wishes to spend time trying other areas she is interested in. We did not think of using DSA and this just occured to me, but English has been her favourite subject all long from P1 till now and she is coping fine. Are there any specific pre entry requisites for English? If she is not going to be considered at all since she has no prior awards or English writing / speaking competition accolade, I will wish to manage her expecations first and talk to her , if she still wants to give it a shot. Any advise and feedback will be appreciated! Thank you!

Hi if anyone has a child who has been accepted by RI or HCI in the science domain, can you share what are his credentials? Any idea how many spots RI or HCI offer for DSA via the science domain?
-
For Science DSA to HCI or RI, are the questions pegged to primary or secondary level? Will there be any questions on physics, chemistry or bio?
-
Hi,
Can any parents share about DSA for Eng and Sci to MGS IP?
Every year how many DSA student MGS takes in for IP program?
Thank you! -

It varies from school to school, most of them usually held in Jun and Jul. The school DSA website will usually list down the details and parents may also post the info (for popular sec schools) here.

Hi, I thought that as long as you qualify for posting group 3 (Express), ie AL20 the school will accept you ?

If the child does not take Higher Chinese does it mean the child will not be able to apply River Valley through DSA?

Basically 3 ways to get into NUSHigh through Year 1 admissions.
Hi may I know for NUS High. Entry is based on their own exams right? Does PSLE score matters for them? And once acceptance, the child cant choose other sch? Example reject DSA and apply other Sec 1 school once receive PSLE result.
1. Talent spotted - already some platinum medallist / award winner and in their training programmes. Invited to join without having to sit for selection test. Scholarship usually offered.
2. Selection. Test round 1 and DSA Camp round 2 - majority will enter this way.
Some will need to go for interview so they hv better understanding of the passion and motivations. After offer, get high enough PSLE score to qualify for ESIS if you want fees to be largely covered ( as with all IP schools).
For 1 and 2. When offered, choose NUSH as first choice in DSA choice selection and then PSLE score just needs to clear express hurdle ( whatever it means in AL system. Group 3 ?)
1 and 2 Once you are offered and then make the first choice selection ( after PSLE exams BUT before PSLE results) , you do not join the countrywide S1 posting exercise after PSLE results. You already receive your posting slip confirming your DSA choice same time as you get your PSLE results. You will not receive that slip asking you to fill your posting choices.
3. SIE stage post PSLE results . Just a few or none per year depending if there are places left over from 1 and 2 .
PSLE score matters - first, you must not hold a DSA offer already and achieved AL 4-6 in the PSLE , plus need AL 1 in both math and science - you are up against the top scorers (used to be qualified as > 250 and A* both math and science) who apply after PSLE. And this exercise happens ONLY if there are vacancies and after results release. But anyone who has interest should indicate that before results release so observe the timelines closely.
Interview is conducted and you accept within 24 hrs. Take heart, they admit they do not pick the highest scorers - it is the interview that matters. They have picked the 250 region guy over the 260 guys as they assessed better fit for the school.
Personally, I see parallel like Cambridge selection once you meet the minimium mark, it is abt FIT … and not like non-interview courses in Imperial or Manchester , where only the top relevant grades are picked.
For SIE, you will not join the joint admissions exercise, NUSH will inform MOH to take you out of the exercise after you accept their 24 hr offer.

Ahead of it, do view the informative videos . We learnt a lot , albeit belatedly, from there only after DS was in school for several years. Would advise all prospective parents to understand the ethos and vibe thoroughly to support their child. It is a road less travelled, not for everyone but if there is a fit, your child will be grateful you supported him/her in this adventure beyond the normie boundaries of opportunities, growth and achievements.

Wah
Must be gepper parents. Right?
For (1), I only know 1 real example first hand.
It’s really rare.
So 170+ minus the (1).
Remaining is for (2) and (3)lucid\" post_id=\"2132921\" time=\"1713580146\" user_id=\"14312:

Hi…
As moe change new rule which no more streams as express , normal and NE…
I wonder does it mean DSA aim for normal neighbourhoods schools also useless?
Under old stream system… as long as you get in via DSA no matter to which school as least is under express…
Now under new system does it mean if not aim for popular school or IP … no point go using DSA for normal school as there will not be confirmation under express? -
Are there selection tests for DSA via science for RGS and NYGH?

Some GEP, not all. Scholarship ones from what I know for a few cohorts now , usually make up one full class ( ard 23-25).

But they don’t stay in the same class in upper years given different course choices. Not all the scholars will do well either. Some are literally hothoused in and it will show up in higher years.
In fact, it is the only IP that does not distinguish between Gepper or non-Gepper. Very inclusive and indifferent who came from what school or who is male or female - as the greatest equaliser is just making it in. Those who go in through route 3 are the rarest - only a handful if any. First, they hv to have high score and not already spoken for in DSA and then there are just a handful places (2-4 pax) some years. -

No. My girl got into RV via DSA last year. She didn't take Higher Chinese in primary school.
Hi
If the child does not take Higher Chinese does it mean the child will not be able to apply River Valley through DSA?
Thanks
